Nintendo’s ‘Miitomo’ Gets Its First TV Commercial In Japan

TouchArcade Rating:

While we’re waiting for Nintendo to hit the big red button on the worldwide release of their first mobile app, Miitomo, let’s catch up on how the social networking app is doing in its home country, where it launched a couple of weeks ago. Miitomo was an immediate success there, shooting up to the number one spot in the free rankings, racking up a million downloads in just three days. While it’s not monetizing too well at this point, and it’s fallen a bit in the free rankings since that explosive launch, it’s doing pretty nicely for Nintendo so far. This is not only their first step into mobile apps, it’s also their big relaunch of their rewards program, now titled My Nintendo, and the two programs work hand-in-hand with each other.

The really wild thing about Miitomo‘s success in Japan is that they only just started advertising it a day or two ago. Mobile is huge in Japan, and it’s pretty much part of the regular cost of business to run a lot of TV commercials for your latest and greatest apps. Nintendo themselves are no strangers to TV ads, either. Odds are if you see a commercial for a game that isn’t on mobile in Japan, it’s probably for one of Nintendo’s products. Bring the two together, and, well, why don’t you have a look and see?

The premise is that the first girl checks Miitomo and finds out a shocking secret about her friend. She rushes to school to confirm it, and after a quick sight gag, the commercial wraps up. Nintendo’s big pitch with Miitomo is that it will help you learn things about your friends you never would have known otherwise. And you know, they’re not wrong. I have learned a lot of things about my friends using the app. Nothing as earth-shaking as finding out they’re secret pro wrestlers, but learning even small details about people you thought you knew pretty well is kind of fun. At any rate, Miitomo should be along within the next few hours, and My Nintendo is already up and running, so you can all see the app for yourselves soon enough.

      Yeah is this premium?

I've been playing the Japanese version for a while now. It's not too bad for a f2p game and if you know what to expect going in.

That's not a kingdom hearts demo that's a final fantasyXV demo.

Lol, Platinum Final Fantasy: Kingdom Hearts. Do you even game bro?

Kingdom heart birth by sleep on the ppsspp emulator is waaaaaaaaay better than this crappy gameboy advance type game. Also, it shows that the iphone 5s and up are more than capable of handling a full 3d Kingdom heart..... This is a waste of hardware

That's because mobile gaming and especially anything f2p are meant to be shallow experiences where you have to pay to get any long term enjoyment. Just wait for KH3 on consoles and enjoy the franchise at its best.

Exactly my point.... A waste of hardware

It's a missed opportunity I played an emulated DS version of KH I don't remember the name but you could collect cards while playing and use them to make cool combinations (android) it is a real cool game but I want a full KH game on iPhone.
