We originally posted about Risky Lab’s Warbits way back in April of 2014, and now nearly two years later to the day and Warbits is finally set to hit the App Store in a couple of weeks, on April 14th. For a refresher course, Warbits is a turn-based strategy game that’s an homage to the classic Advance Wars series, but with some twists. It has a really interesting sci-fi art style and a theme that centers around creating world peace by urging warring factions to settle their battles virtually through a game of Warbits. Check out the brand new launch trailer.
Warbits will come equipped with 20 story-driven single-player missions, but it sounds like the meat and potatoes will lie in the multiplayer offerings. You’ll be able to square off in 1v1, 2v2, and 3-4 player Free For All matches both online through Game Center or locally with a combination of humans or AI bots. There’ll be 40 custom maps and 4 different terrains to battle it out on, and multiplayer matches will include in-game messaging and replays. One really cool feature is the ability to “tag" your multiplayer matches. As Risky Lab explains: “Automatically compete against a custom leaderboard of your friends or social communities by tagging matches with #CustomTags or official tags such as #Bootcamp and #FFA. Pick your own map and settings in #CustomTags or play by preset rules with tags like #FogOfWar and #RapidFire."
The folks in our forums who have been beta testing Warbits have plenty of great things to say about it, and our own Carter Dotson went hands-on with the game during PAX South at the beginning of the year and really liked what he saw as well. Warbits will launch April 14th for $2.99 with no in-app purchases of any kind, and if you’re a strategy game fan your finger should already be hovering over the Buy button.
