The Room trilogy has offered mobile gamers some of the prettiest games on the platform as well as showing off how the touchscreen interface could offer different gameplay experiences than a controller or a keyboard. The games’ tactility combined with the occult themes made The Room trilogy stand out. The Room Three ($3.99) was probably Fireproof Studios’ crowning achievement because of how it managed to create a more coherent game world while still retaining the emphasis on object and space manipulation. Now, and for a limited time, you can get The Room Three for half the price, and that’s a pretty good deal since the game is a visual treat as well as an evolution of the original game both in terms of puzzles and in terms of storytelling. While not everything the developers did worked perfectly, overall the game is definitely one of those mobile gems; it’s no wonder we gave it 5 stars in our review.
If you end up buying and completing the game, you can then get a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at how the game went from idea to reality in a very interesting collection of images. The collection shows various early 3D drawings of some of the puzzle boxes, various sketches that reveal some of the developers’ influences, and more. It really is worth seeing even outside the context of the game, but I’m sure it will be much more rewarding for those who traversed the world of The Room Three. The game has gone cheaper as part of the App Store’s Indie Sale, and it won’t be on sale for long, so go get it.
