Hybrid Card Battler RTS ‘War is Peace: Card Defense’ Hits the App Store

TouchArcade Rating:

I feel like we need a better name for this genre, as describing games like War is Peace: Card Defense (Free) as a “card battler RTS hybrid with MOBA elements" really doesn’t flow off the tongue (or keyboard) very well. Either way, these sorts of games seem like the might be the Next Big Thing™ on the App Store, which is A-OK by me as I think the gameplay formula works really well on mobile.

Anyway, in the game you put together a small deck of various futuristic military units, then engage in battles where you’re dragging those cards out and dumping them on to the battlefield. If it sounds a lot like Clash Royale, well, that’s because it’s definitely in the same ballpark of this sort of game. What sets this one apart is it has an actual single player campaign, and the setting us a much darker post-apocalyptic world over the Clash of Clans-y universe of Clash Royale.

Considering this game is actually available in the US App Store, I’d say it’s definitely worth a try particularly if you’ve never played one of these before. The developers are active on our forums, although in the thread someone afflicted with the Game Center bug is having problems playing, so, hopefully you haven’t been bit by that yet.

Reminds me of The Collectables, a great card/RTS hybrid that couldn't figure out how to work the FTP system.

Not too entertaining at the moment. Really rough.

Like, it's not really polished? Or the game itself is quite difficult?

Very rough. The cards themselves have string variables still in them (increase damage by %value% is one of the first cards you're shown in the tutorial). The cards have very little use since the effects are usually very minor and could be negated by your units bad AI. It's just not very fun you don't feel like you are doing much and the game just feels clunky. I tried it for an hour and it was a very easy uninstall.

Sorry I should have specifically said very unpolished and unfinished. Any difficulty encountered is due to the bad game design as opposed to challenging gameplay.
