Tiger Style’s excellent sequel Spider: Rite Of The Shrouded Moon (Free) has been out for a little over a week now, and the response from most people has been pretty positive all-around. I certainly loved it, as you might have read in my review, though one point I mentioned ended up being a bit of a sticking point for some little spiders. Namely, the way puzzles work in the game. They’re trickier to solve, there are more of them, and they require quite a big of deliberate and conscious action on the part of the human controlling the spider to solve. All of these things are fine if you loved the original Spider for its puzzles, but plenty of players loved the game just for the opportunity to chill out and be a spider wandering around an old house.

In Rite Of The Shrouded Moon, however, those players found a bit of a stumbling block to their enjoyment. Namely, if you don’t solve the big puzzles, you can’t open up new stages. Players who just wanted to get into the zen of catching bugs and passively exploring the environment couldn’t even see half of the game. That’s pretty frustrating, and Tiger Style has heard those players loud and clear. The game just received an update that unlocks the stages whether or not you solve the big puzzles. Now, I know you might be wondering if that messes with the game’s feeling of progression or pacing, and my answer to that would be “not significantly". There are still plenty of rewards both tangible and otherwise for solving those puzzles, but those who just want to do whatever a spider can are free to enjoy the game their way, too.

I’ve got to tip my hat to Tiger Style for being open to feedback and responding so quickly. It’s not always easy to go back on a deliberate design choice, but Tiger Style is obviously committed to making the game as enjoyable as possible for as many players as they can. So if that aspect of the game was holding you back from purchasing or playing, go ahead and hit that little “Update" button and get back to spinning webs of any size, friends.
