NimbleBit’s ‘Capitals’ Launches in Canada Ahead of Worldwide Release Next Week

TouchArcade Rating:

Did you not get into the Capitals beta test from NimbleBit and have wanted to give their turn-based word game a shot? Well, good news if you’re Canadian or “Canadian" – Capitals is now available on the Canadian App Store. NimbleBit’s calling this a stress test, and they’ve also announced the worldwide release date: May 21st. The game is effectively complete, they’re just making sure nothing breaks when they put it out among the wild, unpredictable public.

The game has you battling with another player, trying to take over territory by forming words with tiles adjacent to your tiles. It’s a game of territory as much as it is smart word formation. And because it’s a game with hex grids, that makes it a real game. Get excited for this next week, folks. Or, if you’re from the great white north, or know how to look like it, you can play this right now.

I have been playing since beta launched and I have really enjoyed this game. I am excited to see it launching.

        Ditto. Novel idea, great execution.

Cool--this might be the successor to Letterpress for me! I really liked the non-word strategy elements of Letterpress.

I have no clue why almost every devs decides to soft-launch in Canada, but I'm not against it (im canadian).!

I prefer the football you play with a bat and a net, ty.

It's an absolute cash grab, you have tokens earned by winning matches (or payment) that you need in order to bid on players on the transfer market and tokens are used wether you win the bid or not. You can outright buy superstar players for a huge amount on a different screen and you can train your players to become better however, they get tired and need energy drinks to play/train further, which can be bought using tokens. Once you move up a league, those superstars all drop a rating level and have to be trained again or sold. Improving your stadium takes millions of in game cash and days to complete (speed up with tokens...)
Then when you've got a squad of 9 star legends you get beaten by someone's squad of one star rejects, pushing you to buy better, train etc etc all of which makes no difference whatsoever. Deleted this ages ago and I've never been sorry about it - the game is abhorrent in its push for money.
If you want a halfway decent management sim then get FMH15!

Agree with everything above. "Played" it for a year, never spent a cent but if you want to compete you basically need to have a lot of tokens, at least bi-monthly, to upgrade your team. And you basically don't actually have any control on if you win or not. You could have top quality players and play a formation that in real life would be the natural counter against an opponent who has weak players, in the wrong positions and lose. Deleted and regret I ever downloaded it in the first place.

I completely agree. This game has nothing to do with football, or being a football manager. Nothing at all. It's one of the worst (or actually best?) money grabbers on the app store or google play. Any tactic will work for as long as you pay up. If you don't, no tactic will work :)

New star soccer is very good. Concentrates on you as a player

I want to like it because JM is on the icon, but I'd much rather play Football Manager Handheld 2015. Great premium footy management. No MLS though. :(

    8. timmfox

I have played most these games. I prefer sim games on mobile and action sports games on handheld.

The greatest handheld soccer game is Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 for 3DS.

Been playing this a bunch since it came out. Very well done!
