Diego Cathalafud has done a couple of rad roguelikes for iOS so far: if you’re a fan of turn-based roguelikes or something like The Nightmare Cooperative ($0.99), check out Amber Halls ($1.99) and Power Grounds ($0.99). Now, he’s completing his ‘roguelike trilogy’ with a new game releasing this April, called Arcane Tower. In this turn-based roguelike, you control a wizard who’s fighting off monsters to reach the top floor of a tower. You can pick up spells to help fend off monsters, but only 3 spells per floor can be picked up, with a total of 4 inventory slots.
Arcane Tower will feature randomly-generated levels, as per genre convention, but a couple of cool features are coming along with it. Daily challenges, featuring a level that’s based on the same generation seed for everyone that can be played once per day, will be available. Why more mobile games don’t include these, especially after Spelunky popularized them, baffles me. Additionally, replays of those daily challenges will be available, so you can watch how people figured out how to do well, and maybe learn something! Sounds interesting. The game should release in April, and you can check out the forum thread for the game to find out more and chat with the developer.
I am among those people that liked it better than FFVIII itself! Even though I enjoyed FFVIII anyway. Hope they release it worldwide!
I lost more hours to this card game than to the actual game that I never beat!
It's the only side game in all of the FF universe that fully captured my attention. I really hope this comes west.
This was/is my favorite part of that FF game
Seriously, this in ffviii and blitz ball in ffx are about as much time as the rest of the games themselves.
I'll be waiting for the card games from both Final Fantasy IX and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic. Those two would be great stand alone apps as well
/heavy breathing/ Oh, I have to have this
Please, please don't let this be a cruel April Fools prank. I made an account just to beg
Lol, talk about capitalizing on the Final Fantasy name? Bleed it for all its worth...once they do that, though, what do they have left?
Guess we'll find that out if it ever actually bleeds out. We're on year 25 or so of FF spin-offs and brand extensions, I'm sure it'll die any minute now. :P
Seriously doubt that...just wondering what else they got? Marvel and Star Wars keep going, so why not Final Fantasy? Though the first two do have more recent material.
I loved Triple Triad! The only thing that drove me nuts was the random rule (especially in combination with the plus rule). A world-wide release would be sweet.
Damn it. I just wrote wanting this game for mobile in the FF dena game thread last week. I joked it'd be some f2p mechanic nonsense. And look what we got here...
Have you heard about the new Final Fantasy coming to IOS and Android Its "MEVUIS Final Fantasy" this will be very good I think!
Yeah, Mevius Final Fantasy looks absolutely incredible.
Like, it looks amazing.
I just recently started playing this again within Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I'd like to have a proper version to play on-the-go.
I hope this means we can eventually see Tetra Master from FF IX, as I was introduced to the card games in that one. I'd also love to see a Pazaak stand alone app from KOTOR. I play way too much of that in the game.
Didn't Card City Nights basically copy this card game?
I wouldn't say it copied it, but it's certainly based on Triple Triad, yes.
And that would be why I enjoyed Card City Nights over other card games.
There is a game called Triple Triad for iPad. While not FF endorsed, it's the same game. No online competition, just single player mode.
Probably not long for the world if SE decides to release this outside Japan.
will there be a worldwide release of final fantasy agito?
Real talk? Triple Triad is the reason I have never beaten Final Fantasy VIII, and Tetra Master is the reason I have never acquired Excalibur II in Final Fantasy IX (waste too much time each play through on it). I prefer Tetra Master to Triple Triad, but I have wanted ports of both for years, and this leads me to believe I may yet see that day. HYPE!
Been playing today and it's got all the trimmings you'd want like the right music and style but it doesn't stick to the ff8 card set and has the dissidia roster of Heros as your opponents that repeats as you beat easy/normal and hard. The game is set up on a 5 gem timer that takes 30 minutes per gem to refill. If you want to play its one gem, if you want to Bluetooth battle your friend or verse someone online that's a gem too.
So yeah.... They want that iap. Doing the conversions to aud they want 90 cents (lowest) a game or save some money paying $22 (highest) and getting 54 games.
So far I can't tell you if its a good game because I'm at the first battle in the normal roster and ran out of bloody gems (which they give you an extra 5 or so when you start so that's nice)
So that's my report so far.
Kreygasm. Kreygasm everywhere. (But wait, then why do I need 'Eminence: Xander's Tales'? Kappa)
There's a bad bug in it though. It will never load again when you quit the app so it forces you to uninstall it than do everything all over again.
Does anyone else have the bug I reported?
I don't get this issue iOS 8.1.2 iP5S.
It's breaking all the time for me and it's very annoying like one time it'll play than another time it'll just close out
And I'm running 8.2 so idk if it isn't supported quite yet or what but I really love the game otherwise. I just hope they fix whatever bug is causing this crashing.
