The Uber-Stylish ‘Hyper Maze Arcade’ Releases on February 4th

TouchArcade Rating:

A month ago, we brought Hyper Maze Arcade to your attention, a game that looked pretty spiffy just based on seeing it in motion alone. Well, good news if you’ve wanted to check it out for yourself, as you’ll be able to do so soon: the game releases for free next week on February 4th. The game also has a new trailer showing off the game in motion with its effects and music, check it out:

How the game works is that you swipe to move from one junction to the next, constantly trying to make your way upward and through the generated mazes. Thus, the challenge becomes to constantly be looking for the right path, analyzing the maze quickly. There’s also green bits to collect that give you energy, which can be used to enable powerups to save you while playing, or to continue. The game is ad-supported, with a $0.99 unlock that removes ads and unlocks the Minimal mode, which removes the flashy effects, if you want to just play the game without distraction. You can join our forum thread to chat about the game, where the developer has posted, if you have any further questions.

Wasn't all the footage they showed from old Sonic games?

      1. Goggles789

That's what I thought! Honestly, the trailer left me with more questions than answers.

Same here. Wanna see some game play from this game in action, at least.

      auto runner?

      There goes my excitement...

      1. Jayboy720

To be fair, most of us just hold Right and jump & spin accordingly in these games anyway. It's all about speed and timing, not so much 'stopping to decide what comes next.' The game might still be crap but I don't think it would be because of the auto-running part =]

        1. Rebrahimy

Actually, most of the old school Sonic games that are on the App Store require a lot of stopping and deciding so you can avoid any sort of threats. And besides, those games had multiple paths to the end of the level and not linear like an auto-runner.

          1. Jayboy720

Yep! Though this did already say it still has multiple paths.

Could be interesting- but based on previous iOS original Sonic titles, this will probably be more of a IAP money grab than anything else.

    4. Goggles789

With releases like this, Sonic is just proving to be irrelevant, at this point.

Been waiting for SEGA to bring back the Sonic Adventure series, or at least a remake for Sonic '06 (which would of been a good game of it hadn't been rushed out)

Not to mention sonic 4 episode II was broken and has been taken off the AppStore, and also Jet Set Radio is also gone. What has SEGA been doing?

        1. Brendan Charles

I would buy a Sonic Adventure port in a second. *Especially* for those adorable chaos.

          1. zergslayer69

Or they can make the garden its own app.

            1. Brendan Charles

              I'd buy that too!

    5. istako

What a weird trailer... So no new graphics, just a NES remix type of game with select levels and several characters but in auto run style? Thaths what I got. Either way I will end up buying this... Come on, Sonic, you can come back again...

    6. Exact-Psience

If this was a side scrolling auto-runner like the classics, with the level design of the classics, this will be a great Rayman Run-like game, which i think is perfect for Sonic. Or at the least more proper than the current Sonic titles.

There's goes my hopes for a premium RPG platformer. Speedy turn based battles would be more fun for me.

      1. curtisrshideler

Or just fix Sonic 4 and have Christian port Sonic 3 with no IAP. Then I'll bite.

    8. Ninja_Blade_Diego

      Sweet! 👍

    9. pinta_vodki

50 episodes 2 minutes each is 100 minutes. 1,5 hours is "huge amount of content" now? :-P

    10. James Cameron

Hope this will be like Rayman on iOS
