Duet ($2.99) from Kumobius rates as one of the best of the bunch of minimalist, challenging, arcade-style games. And now the Australian developer has made the game free for a limited time in honor of Australia Day. You play as a pair of orbs that spin around a central point, and must try to make it to the end of a level without hitting anything. There’s also endless modes and daily challenges to take on for high scores. Those were added as post-release updates, along with new music and a narrator, to add some flourish to the game.
This is the first time that the game has gone free on the App Store, though it has been free at Starbucks before. While the latest “Epilogue" update indicates that the game may be done with major content updates – and Bean Dreams ($2.99) is the current focus for Kumobius – there’s still so much to take on here. And for free, it’s hard to go wrong for what really is one of the best games of its kind. Pick this one up while you can, as it may go back to paid really soon, once Australia Day ends. So hurry up and grab it now if you haven’t already!

That's some serious dough for a super bowl ad, I didn't realize this game was taking in that much... I tried it and thought it was horrible, not just b/c FREEMIUM, but it's boring auto attack non sense.... Faith in humanity is rapidly declining
It seems to have done quite well by itself after the initial commercial campaign, which is probably why they're risking capital on this slot.
Interesting fact: uCool is also the publisher of those Evony games you might have seen spamming your FB feed a few years ago.
Makes sense, I had friends in on evony but it just wasn't my cup o tea... Learned something new though, thanks
I don't see why people liking something you don't like makes you lose faith in humanity?
I'm sure you get what they mean. Just that there are THAT many people who like freemium games over full paid games to the point where they can afford a super expensive superbowl ad segment.
Ton of money people are dumping into zero value games that could've gone towards big titles.
Technically, I said rapid declining, not lost. The amount of money they are paying for a super bowl ad makes me think they project high yield from their game, their game is automated and requires nothing more than clicking start... All other battles are auto finished, my faith declining comes from people thinking that's fun and worth buying from... But everyone is entitled to their opinion including me ;)
The average non-gamer gamer wants auto attack, obviously, as it's in every game I DL nowadays. I play almost all free lately as I'm broke, and even my new almostMMO action rpg darkness reborn, which is a solid game that actually requires thought to play, has an auto button. It will usually get you killed unless you are playing something way below your characters level, but it's there, and it's a freemium title (thought I am sitting on over 20$ of the premium currency and I only spent 3$ a long time ago, and spent mich more than that before I got to where i am at... My point is check it out)
If only the graphics really looked like that...still, the game has lots to do.
I feel sad
I guess I'm just happy to see gaming in the forefront. Just too bad that it wasn't a different game, but hey, kudos to uCool! As long as people aren't getting hurt and are having fun, more power to them.
The times they are a changin. *waves cane* GET OFF MY LAWN YOU DANG KIDS
Why, back in my day we didn't have these timer-wimer stuff, our games wanted us to play them and not some other game! That's how games in my day worked, they were fun and we played them! Grumble grumble.
*If your game has to rely on "come back when you get to play later" to try and get people to keep coming back and playing, maybe it wasn't good enough in the first place? AND it isn't letting me play it? Game over, try again? And paying to remove the timer temporarily would be so expensive to keep doing that nobody's going to want to at all. 'FUN IS THE SECRET.' Because I feel like Zelda quotes. ...Oh, right, this line is perfect here, it's what the timers are saying: "LEAVE YOUR LIFE OR MONEY." 😝
(I don't know if this specific freemium game has timers, I was just making a relevant/humorous comment (and follow up explanation) to go with the humorous/relevant comment I responded to.)
"It's like a real arcade game in your phone. It's so great to have to pay to continue "
-no one ever
I don't care just so long as I don't have to see Kate Upton and those damned Game of War ads anymore. Between television and Trivia Crack I've had enough of those ads for a lifetime.
I enjoy the upton commercials, I have no clue what the game is about nor do I care, but Upton could sell an atheist a bible with that outfit ;)
I actually like the game.Only made a 3 dollar purchase and has been enough for 2.5 months.Give it a try.
Eli. Well-said. Also funny. It's like it's your job to be funny and on-point or some thing.
When the game first came out on the TA feed I thought it was trash. Copied certain art from other games. It was a low budged glitch auto-attack game with low red quality. Insane that it gained so much attention!
'Gamers' : "Timers sux!", "Skinner box gameplay is bad!", "Give us premium games!"
'Dev' : "What? I can't hear you over all the shiny metallic coins falling into the pockets of Zynga, uCool, EA, Supercell!"
Only a bubble waiting to burst in my eyes
