In one of the rare instances where it actually pays to be American and buying things in US Dollars is the recent news of iTunes price adjustments. This isn’t really anything new, as Apple has adjusted prices in the past to be in line with current currency conversions… But this one might sting a bit more than most as thanks to the strength of the dollar (Go Team America!) prices are shifting around in a few non-US regions.
Like all things related to the iTunes ecosystem, price changes are a little weird. They start with Apple announcing they’re changing prices (which happened yesterday):
Within the next 36 hours, prices on the App Store will increase for all territories in the European Union as well as in Canada and Norway, decrease in Iceland, and change in Russia. These changes are being made to account for adjustments in value-added tax (VAT) rates and foreign exchange rates.
From there, the price changes slowly filter out to the App Store. The first one we’ve managed to spot is EU countries, where the 0.89€ price point has been increased to 0.99€. At least on my App Store, prices in the other impacted regions have stayed the same, but you should expect them to adjust up or down in line with what one US dollar is worth in that particular corner of the world.
Update: Looks like the pricing matrix shows 0.89€ going to 0.99€, I’ll chalk up the previous figures to iTunes weirdness. Another person in our comments is reporting 1.14€ as well, who who even knows.
