Last week saw the surprise update of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Free), which was a welcome surprise because it’s a darn fine Grand Theft Auto game. If you haven’t checked out this game in the series, now is as good a time as ever, as the game’s dropped in price to $2.99. This was initially a DS spinoff of the GTA series, but a fantastic game nonetheless, with all the crime action of the series represented well in a scaled-down form, and with a rather compelling drug dealing economy to play with. Granted, there are Grand Theft Auto 3 ($4.99) and its sequels on the App Store now, but this one actually holds its own.
Both the regular version and the HD version ($4.99) of the game are on sale, which may be confusing to some folks. The game launched on iPhone before the iPad existed, then got a separate iPad version. Last week, both versions were updated to be universal, but the HD version is set to be removed from sale eventually so that there’s only the one universal version on the store – the HD version only still exists so that people who bought that version get the benefits of the universal app. This is a better, albeit more complicated way of handling it, versus Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light ($3.99) which just updated one version and left the other out in the cold.

Actually, very much looking forward to listening to this tomorrow. Keeping my fingers crossed for a Desert Golfing mention as it really is the game of the year. Any year.
I would like to point something out. Console Games NEVER went up in price. They used to run $80, then they went down to 70 and now they're 60, and have been 60 for the past 10 years. I used to buy new PS1 games for 69.99CDN. And some SNES games went into the 80's and 90's of Canadian dollars games, like Chrono Trigger.*
PC games have been between 50 to 60 for a long time. I think they went up recently, but have been matching Console prices for the most part.*
*Collector's Editions and DLC are not included in this statement.
I remember when console games went from $50 to $60. If I remember correctly, a popular gaming magazine even covered the controversy - not Game Informer, but another one that's no longer around. I was even surprised when it happened.
Great podcast guys. You got me back into Wayward Souls. Man I forgot what an outstanding game that was. Still using the warrior and trying to max out my upgrades for him. And still stuck on the 2nd boss. Just gotta keep practicing. Got a bunch of hats too. There must have been an update to increase the hat drops. It's been so long since I've played!
Looking forward to another year of iOS gaming with you all. Keep up the excellent work and have a happy New Year!
