It seems like forever ago that Double Fine ran their then-record breaking Kickstarter for a brand new Tim Schafer-developed point-and-click adventure game, but in actuality it was just back in March of 2012. That adventure game is what eventually came to be Broken Age, and it’s had a somewhat rocky development. The game took longer than originally planned to finish, and in fact last year Double Fine announced their intention to split the game into two parts in order to at least get something out the door in a timely fashion.
And that’s what they did. Broken Age Act 1 ($4.99) launched on desktop platforms in January of this year, with the iPad version of the game releasing this past June. Originally, the Act 2 that completed the game was planned for release before the end of 2014, but as Polygon notes Double Fine has now announced that Act 2 will be pushed back to some point in early 2015.
According to the information that Double Fine posted on the official Broken Age forums, the goal now is to get Act 2 into alpha before the end of the year. Double Fine’s Greg Rice states “The game is looking really good and the team is working super fast, but we just gotta give the game the time it needs to really deliver on everything we’re hoping it will be."
I am actually all for a game taking as much time as it needs to be completely finished, rather than releasing something half-baked just to hit a deadline. The problem is that Broken Age shows awesome potential, but Act 1 alone feels very incomplete, our main point of displeasure in our review. As such, Act 2 and the fully finished product really can’t come soon enough.
As for the iOS version of Broken Age Act 2 in particular, Double Fine hasn’t stated anything specific about it, but Act 1 took about 6 extra months to come out on iPad following the desktop release. It’s unknown if it’ll be that long of a wait between the desktop version and the iOS version of Act 2, but I think it’s reasonable to expect it will at least be sometime after the desktop version. We’ll be keeping tabs on the situation and will let you know once more specific release timelines are announced for Broken Age Act 2, but for know it’s safe to push 2014 out of your mind and look forward to it sometime in 2015.

Online multiplayer is all that's missing.. Hope they implement it soon 😁😁😁
What's up with that icon? Is that a rocket in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
That's "The Axe," the most powerful Axe/Hammer in the game, modeled to look like an electric guitar. It's one of the most powerful weapons, too, though it is very hard to get!
OK, is that an Axe in your pocket... :)
It is modeled to actually look like "The Axe" In Pantera, a band. Its a 0.5 drop from Plantera. Plantera is also based of the Pantera, Red's Girlfriends favorite band. http://images.sodahead.com/..., I am pretty sure that is "The Axe"
I play this with my boys. Local multiplayer is all we need now that 1.2 is live!
I've played this game for 50 hours or so and I'm still such a nooooooob..
Bro I started a new game and it took me like a day or two to get full hallowed armor. You just need to know what to do, each time you start a new game it gets much easier.
Because of how long it took to get the hard mode update I didn't expect this to come so soon.
This and Junk Jack X are two of the very best examples that an
additional content can be free. And not just few levels (yes, I'm
talking to you Monument Valley developers), but whole bunch of new stuff for a very long period of time.
I wonder why this guys didn't cry over the money they didn't get like MV dev did.
I'm not going to hate people making money, but yeah it's amazing what 505 games has done.. They could easily charge us for all these awesome updates and don't.. Love those guys..
Hate on***
One minor difference that I'm kind of thinking of is with Terraria it's a game that has a lot of replayability. And because of this people get strongly immersed in it, and then push their friends to try and get it, and online forums are created and the community expand, leading to more sales.
Monument Valley gets a lot of hype around release time, and whenever the App Store features them, but I'm sure income somewhat reflects the hype timeline. When they release they get a good bit of money, and new content or have a sale they get a good amount of new users. But for the most part, when people finish the game, that's it for it. Not replayable past the first or maybe second time.
I'm not saying I know this for a fact, but it would appear to be that way. Am I saying that what 505 is doing by releasing huge free updates isn't noble and amazing? No. It's freaking awesome. But I think that the type of game and the community drawn to each game has some sort of effect on why they may have to charge for their new content.
Need online multiplayer but I will redownload this because of the news contents
I've been waiting for this update forever!
You guys are so lucky.
In Japan, the rights to Terraria is with a Japanese developer and not only will they take months to bring this update to us, they still have not updated for iOS8.
Sad to see such a great game riddled with 1-star ratings.
I seriously think that 505 should not have released the game in Japan if they had no choice but to let someone else run it.
Where's terraria 2?
This might make me actually want to play the mobile version, I have played the PC version for over 3 years and absolutely loved the 1.2 update when it arrived there
Now mobile is slightly ahead of console. (The Pumpkin Moon was also added) This means that mobile is moving ahead in the game. Way to go CodeGlue and 505!
