Earlier this month we saw the release of Hail to the King: Deathbat (Free), a product of Subscience Studios and the band Avenged Sevenfold. Members of the band grew up playing video games, and when it came time to make their own, they wanted to create an homage to the games they loved playing back in the ’80s and ’90s. The combat and magic system in Deathbat is pretty simplistic, and the difficulty can be unforgiving. Those are the reasons I love the game so much, but those are also the reasons a lot of people didn’t like the game so much. Opinions, you know? Because of the polarized feelings towards Deathbat, I imagine there were a lot of people who might have been interested in the game but were stuck on the fence. Well, if that describes you, now might be a good time to jump off the fence as Hail to the King: Deathbat is currently on sale for $1.99, down from its normal price of $4.99.
We liked Hail to the King: Deathbat quite a bit in our review, and as I mentioned it’s one of my personal favorites. Playing it just makes me happy. I understand it’s not for everyone, but for a couple of bucks, the risk is pretty low to be able to find out for yourself. At the very least, the awesome soundtrack is well worth the entry price, and you can check out a behind the scenes video of the band talking about making the soundtrack. Also, today is Halloween, and Deathbat is a perfect game to get in the spooky spirit of this holiday. Finally, if you’re more of a desktop gamer, Hail to the King: Deathbat is also now available on Steam for the sale price of $3.99, down from its normal price of $5.99.
Oh yea! Been waiting for some news on Bitcoin billionaire and glad to hear it's coming out tonight!
Garbage week. Viking game looks good. Everything else looks dated
I'll give you that, Bitcoin was fun for about an hour, then it all started feeling familiar.
IMHO, a very addictive game which has sneaky ad placements, in the sense that unless you want to be set back quite a bit, you'd better watch the damn ad. 😎
Simogo and garbage week can't be put together
Hoping for some surprise late entries to sneak in, otherwise, ww.
The Sailor's Dream by Simogo is a definite purchase. Bitcoin Billionaire looks interesting too.
Simogo games are always popular and high rated but I always get stuck on their games cause I don't know what to do. :/
It's okay to get stuck. It's hard to balance puzzle games. If they're too easy, there's no satisfaction in solving them. If they're too hard, they're frustrating. The toughest sections of Year Walk and Device 6 probably stumped me for 20 or 30 minutes. Sometimes it helps to put them down for a few hours and come back with fresh eyes and ears.
Finally, it's okay to use guides. They're there for a reason. In the case of Simogo's games, spoiling the puzzles don't spoil the whole experience, because there are rich stories in addition to the puzzles. I personally used a guide once for Year Walk when I couldn't find one of the babies. I'm glad I did instead of quitting — the whole Year Walk experience was phenomenal.
I quit Year Walk and Device 6 because of the difficulty. I even started using a guide for Device 6 but it wasn't any fun being told how to do the puzzles. Maybe I'll try those games again. Everyone says they are amazing.
Monzo,The Sailor's Dream and Day of the Viking so far for me..BTW,can anyone confirm if Monzo is Free-to-play or Premium?
It's free-to-play
Thanks mate :)
Bitcoin Billionaire looks good
Where the heck is Hitman Sniper!!!
Where is the U.S. release of The Longest Journey?
OK,i see monzo is out on appstore..51.8mbs in size :)
As always, thanks to Eli for putting this list together. Just wish there was something I wanted this week...
Dash up is already in stores for two weeks.
Or that it soft lunches in Israel???😱😱😱
Ya where is hitman sniper. Can't wait for that
This list is longer than previous week but still don't see anything that a) uses Metal and b) justifies me ever upgrading from an iPad 1. iOS gaming is def not helping Apple sell new hardware. At least the music apps keep updating to make use of 64-bit. Another long list of indie games. WEAK!
With a first gen iPad, I'm not sure what conceivable boost you'd ever get from Metal.
He is looking for a reason to upgrade I think.
None as its A7 upwards...
I do have an iPad Air 2 now but having started with the original iPad and gone through iPad 2, iPad 4 and iPad mini retina, I can say iOS games are no reason to upgrade as the current crop are all 'retro', '8-bit', etc. nothing wrong with that for people who like those but you can play similiar games for free via web pages and emulators. it's like iOS gaming is regressing these days. no new Metal titles, no real big projects even in the wings, i think it's already dead. music and productivity apps have driven my upgrades (music devs LOVE 64-bit support and work it!)
That makes me feel a little better with my little iPad mini without retina, although I'm starting to see it more often in the not compatible with category
No way guys i can tell you this without a doubt, i have gamed on ipad 2 since release and just got the ipad air 2, and the difference is ridiculous, i can play games which crashed before constantly, graphics are better, faster gameplay, its just blew my mind that i was gaming on something so slow. If your a serious bout gaming, defo a good idea to have the latest ipad, they have perfected it at last
Yeah, but they do still play on iPad 2 but prob if you bought iPad 4 two years ago you would have noticed a big difference then as you sat out a few iPad models there probably because games still ran. You went from iPad 2 to Air 2. There are few games out that take advantage of 64-bit support, which iOS has had for over a year now, and no new releases since iOS 8 that use Metal. Neither of those are good signs. Why bother with a 64-bit/recent iPad for games again??
Why bother? Its obvious, even when i played on my nephews ipad 4 i had problems that ipad 2 had, there was not much difference, but this u can take to the bank, the power of the latest ipad well be utilised to its potential soon, it already is, i love xcom which played laggy and crashed on ipad 4 but it runs fawless on the new tablet, even faster and smoother then my desktop, including san andreas, trust me play some intense games n the ipad air 2 and u will see what i mean
Sometimes I feel the same way, that ios games are regressing... All these retro ports and people calling for sonic classics etc. I really thought we'd be breaking boundaries by now and seeing games rivalling last gen consoles...like the wii, as silly as that may sound.
For the ones waiting for hitman sniper trust me it's worth the wait even though it's free to play u don't need to pay to win
Looks like my game Mr. Particle-Man (coming out tonight) didn't make this list for some reason, but it's going to be AWESOME. Retro arcade adventure, over 100 levels, awesome boss battles, Game Center leaderboards and achievements, super polished twitchy fun, and absolutely no ads or IAP.
I'd love to hear what people think. Check out the TouchArcade forum post here: http://forums.toucharcade.c...
Battleworlds KRONOS !!!!!!!
As a KS backer for this game, I wonder how the IOS reward will be handled? I am expecting an email concerning this by tomorrow..
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) noice
The grog in me is looking forward to Rebels and Redcoats. Now the HC has teamed up with Decision Games, their tactical games should become even better than ever.
I noticed no one cares about seabeard any more. It can stay in Canada for all I care what a freemium flopper that was.
Bitcoin Billy is more addictive than Game Dev Story. You have been warned.
It will always be a weak week without Framed!
There are some good looking games coming this week though.
Crap week for me. Lots of hopeful games, that turned to be nothing more than IAP delivery mechanisms.
What about The Sailor's Dream? I betcha there's no IAP in that one :P
it definitely looks/sounds beautiful, but i just don't "get it". from the reading i'm seeing here it sounds like a puzzle game? not really into those sadly.
Plenty of quite interesting ones, but The Sailor's Dream is a literal instabuy. I'm in love with Simogo's style.
