‘Galcon 2’ Enters “Fan-Premier Launch” on Desktop and Android, Coming to iOS Soon

TouchArcade Rating:

Looking forward to playing Galcon 2? Well, you still have a ways to go before you can play it on iOS, but the game is out now in a “Fan-Premier" launch on desktop and Android. This is something between a full public launch and a public beta – Developer Phil Hassey says this is the game leaving beta, but the game’s not quite out on retail stores, he’s just self-distributing the game at this moment. But you can go and register an account and play the game right now, just not quite on iOS yet (though he’s distributing Testflight copies to his testers). The plan is for Galcon 2 to hit the App Store down the road, though.

Galcon 2 Fan Launch

But if you want to take Galcon 2 for a spin right now, you can register a GalconID and have your progress carry over to the iOS version. Online play is a big feature here, as you can play others in free-for-all and team modes, with the familiar planet-conquering gameplay the series is known for. The game will be free-to-play, with in-game currency used to buy customizations and to support your clan through a betting system. We’ll be keeping an eye out for when this hits iOS, but if you have the means, check it out right now!

I'm getting so close to downloading iOS 8! Really want to try this out!

iOS 8 is fine now. 8.1 works perfectly, dont need to stress :)

If you have an iPad2 don't do it. It slows everything way down. It's apples way of forcing upgrades. My iPad2 is soo slow now.

I have an iPhone 5 (16GB) & an iPad Mini Retina (128GB). I think I might update the Mini and leave the iPhone 5 the way it is... It's just that I've got SO many games on the Mini, I'm afraid a lot of them won't work anymore. I don't know the first thing about this stuff. *sigh*

Looks great! Obviously inspired by the 1993 DOS game Slicks'n'Slide, also made in Finland. Great to see a return to that kind of raw fun. It's been far too long.

I came in here to see if someone would mention that. Slicks'n'Slide was one of my favorite racers back in the day.

Perhaps just me, but after playing this for around 10 minutes, I found the difficult level irritating, especially in conjunction with "losing" an upgrade which was recently purchased

      Excellent game of the week!

It's hard to complain about this choice when the competition is a greedy Star Wars game and a greedier Warhammer game.

      I'm sold!

      Great game, great choice!

Minor correction: you actually need 10 wins in a row to get the Raritarium medal, but the 3 in a row from earning Platinum count towards it, so you just need 7 more if you keep the streak going. If you fail, you need 10 in a row.

I haven't been this taken in with an indie developed, indie published title in some time. That's saying something as I'm always playing new indie games every week and loving some of them. This one just has everything going for it; great "retro" graphics and sounds, super-smooth and fast action gameplay and just about every feature that gamers want already built in. Oh, and it only two dollars! No iap, just a fully loaded joyride. Congrats to Kimmo Lathinen, you've made a game to be completely proud of and one that not only wont leave my device, but it will not leave my favorite apps page!

I'm enjoying this game! It's very retro and I love the upgrading system.

So happy with this game. It's an easy purchase too. The developers last paid game was released in April 2013 and has never gone on sale, that truly does make me want to buy games from him, and to those who've put this on their watch list waiting on a sale, probably no need to wait.

Great choice and great article. To think, I almost missed this one amid all the "A-List" shovelware this week.
