‘Hearthstone’ Set to Hit iPhone “Early Next Year”

TouchArcade Rating:

If you’re one of the many people who always races to the comments of any Hearthstone (Free) story to post the requisite “WTF BLIZZ" in regards to when in the world the game is coming to the iPhone, we got a half-answer today in part of a development update by Blizzard. There’s a pretty slick infographic and the following relevant tidbit:

We’re also close to having Hearthstone out to our iPhone and Android phone users, but it’s become clear that we need a little more time to get that version right. While we have a build up and running internally, it needs a bit more work, and we don’t feel like we’ll be ready to share it with you until early next year. It’s very important to us that the phone experience for Hearthstone is just as accessible as the tablet and PC versions. One of the biggest challenges with that is revamping the user interface so it feels intuitive and offers the same quality Hearthstone experience, but this time from the palm of your hand.

If Blizzard’s reputation has shown us anything, it’s that they’re not going to release a product until it’s at 100% of the quality level we’ve come to expect of Blizzard games. While clever jailbreakers have figured out how to get the iPad game to run on their iPhones, the experience by no means meets the Blizzard standard. Hopefully we’ll get a tease of what the iPhone interface will be like in a couple weeks at Blizzcon?

Anyone have an idea as to how long the sale will be going?

IMO this is the best port on IOS after KOTOR. Buy it if you haven't already

I love the choice of pic you guys used, Big Smoke would be proud.

And Catacul, I've been playing this port for the past month in between commutes and what not and outside of the odd bug here and there, this port is immaculate.

      1. dudewelcome

out of curiosity, which device/iOS are you running on? the forum seemed to turn up a pretty mixed bag of reactions from people, depending on the devices they were using

        1. Brykeign

          The 6+ with current OS.

Occasionally I'll get a crash or bug but the bugs usually came from the auto-save function. Like if I auto-save (turn the device off and return) during a race, the game will bug out until I intentionally fail, then restart it. The game wasn't meant to save during a race and this port shows it.

The crashes usually came from me completing a race mission mid-auto-save but like I said, if I restarted it it was no problem. Once every blue moon I'll get a completely random crash, but those were far inbetween and usually reopening the app continued play with no problem.

All in all, the bugs and crashes were kind of annoying, but hardly gamebreaking enough to detract from the experience in the long term.

      What's the regular price? 4.99?

Can someone provide an honest opinion on the controls? I can't imagine how such a complex control system is mapped successfully to a touchscreen, but hopefully I'm wrong. I'd love to play, but only if the controls aren't a huge headache.

For instance, shooting while driving? That was complicated even with a controller.

      1. bababewey

I couldn't play longer than an hour due to the controls. It's an incredible game, but for me, unenjoyable on IOS.

        1. XboxOne

You have to set up the controls right.

      2. dalglir

The controls are very customizable and once you get them into a sweet spot they're good enough to get 100% completion - which is something I achieved on the iPad mini for the first time after playing the game for 10 years on PS2 and PC.

      3. DuckyShot

Depends on what games you play on iOS. If you play something like MC5 then the controls shouldn't be a problem. But if you play games with more simplified controls then I don't know lol

        1. philadendron

You're on to something, I find MC5 pretty frustrating. I have zero problems with Mikey Shorts, League of Evil-type games. Games that have touch controls meant to approximate dual analogs give me trouble.

      4. XboxOne

The controls are great on iPhones.

    6. Bruce Wayne

bought it last December, loved it, and 98% completion

    7. Rebel Fourteen

GTA: Vice City and GTA: 3 are also on sale. Just FYI.

    8. terrence92

I played this on my iPhone 5 back when it came out and now on my iPhone 6. Never have I experienced lag or framedrops. The controlls are good IMO and if you don't like the setting you can change everything to your style.. + if you have a controller than boy you are in for a surprise!

      1. Themostunclean

Never had a problem on my iPhone 5 either. Or my iPad Air.

    9. TopWarmachine

I found the controls to be adequate for a touch screen device, but the one bug that hasn't been fixed is the persistent commercials while listening to a radio station. I had to use my own custom playlist because the two main radio stations I used to listen to only play commercials even after hours of continuous play.

      GET TO THE TRAIN CJ!!!

      I can't believe I actually purchased it.

This is not the type of game I usually play, but I'll give it a try, for sale's sake.
