The TouchArcade Show – 173 Side A – We Got Phones

LogoThe original plan for this podcast was to talk about our day playing iOS games on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus… Then the reality of just how long it takes to set up a new iPhone hit. Late in the day, and with nothing really left to talk about that we didn’t already post in first impressions pieces, we record a quick podcast on our experience in line and similar. Once we have more time to spend over the weekend gaming on the new devices, we’ll record the second side of this podcast… I just wanted to have something in the feed so people weren’t wondering what happened.

Don’t forget to shoot us emails with any questions, feedback, or anything else relevant or irrelevant to [email protected]. We read ’em all, even if they don’t make it into the podcast. As always, you can listen to us with the links below… And if you like what you hear, please subscribe and/or drop us a review in iTunes. Much appreciated!

Not that it really matters, but maybe you should have restored your phones on the weekend and spent the first day just installing apps on blank phones

Nice. $20 cheaper is nice, but it seems like they achieved that by not having a builtin rechargeable battery. I don't mind just using rechargeable AAAs though, since I already use them in other things. I'm pretty sure this is the one I'll get.

I vastly prefer this kind of thing for random accessories. I've got loads of those enerloop batteries around, and it's way easier to swap those in and keep going versus finding the tiny USB cable and charging.

        I agree.

Might sound strange but I actually PREFER my accessories use aa or aaa batteries rather than a built in battery.

Built in li-ion batteries degrade over time and make your tech worthless. It's MUCH easier to keep something long term if you can simply purchase another set of eneloop batteries off of amazon.

I am exactly the opposite. I have no devices that use AAA batteries, but I have a bunch of micro-USB cables laying around.

This one has potential. Although that's what I thought about the Rebel and the buzz was not all good and $80 killed that for me.

If a deal can be had where this controller drops into the 45-50 range, I may dip for it. I hope the fit for the 6+ is secure because mine is coming.

Please please please let 2014 be the year that I can finally play my Mega Man Zero's on that giant iPhone screen with the MFI controller.....mmmm

For some reason I thought TouchArcade said MadCatz was coming out with a 'micro' version of this controller for iOS... yet when I go onto their website it says the micro CTLRi controller is only for Android/Amazon Fire TV? WTH?

They did display a Micro version for iOS at E3 2014. It's not out yet though, so not listed on their website yet. The iOS version of the CTRLi wasn't listed on their site either until recently.

Is anyone else having trouble pre-ordering this? I try to pre-order and nothing happens. I've tried on both mobile and desktop Safari.

I received mine yesterday and it's AWESOME. Lightweight with batteries installed, high build quality, comfortable to hold... Works perfectly with my 6 in its case. This opens up a whole new world of iOS gaming for me since I hate touchscreen controls for action games. I'm so excited!

It works great with Asphalt 8

I really want to play Dead Trigger 2 but it won't work
