Gameloft’s latest $0.99 price drop is their action game Hero of Sparta [$0.99]. We looked at this game back in December and thought it to be one of the most impressive games for the iPhone.
As an overall package, Hero of Sparta is one of the most impressive games for the iPhone. The level complexity, 3D rendering, and cinematics come together to deliver an incredible experience.
The original price of the game was $9.99, and is absolutely worth getting at $0.99.

Still so mad that i got this game at 5.99, only for it to be dropped down to .99 cents 12 hours later.

Worth it at either though I guess. it's a lot of fun.
better than kroll?! cuz kroll was pretty weak...
Excellent! I forgot about this one. Guess my absent-mindedness paid off :)
Yes, better than Kroll ... the game was fun and took me around 3 hours or so to beat. Def. worth $.99
For me, still one of the best games.
Thrilling, fantastic graphics and awesome music, great controls, good content.
This is a present for 99 cents... There are still people out there not having it?
damn! what is gameloft trying to do!? lol
Finally picked this up at $.99. Wow, what a deal!
Absolutely worth picking up at this price.
From oblivion to # 26 overnight....
The guy who plays in the youtube, he's new to the game, when he press the blue button when a boss type is about to die, he didn't press the corresponding buttons follow up, or he can do some nice deadly cut-scene combos.
I bought it at $4.99 and thought it was worth it... even though it does have a bit of slow down... but it is like God of War for your iPhone! $0.99 makes it a no-brainer...
I thought this game was simply awful. A mindless button masher with a terrible, terrible frame rate. Compared to the likes of God of War on the PSP, this is a total joke.
I am definitely purchasing this even though there is no way that my first-generation iPod Touch will be able to play it smoothly. For $.99, I will just keep it in iTunes and off the 'touch until I pick up a new iPhone when I return to America.
Thanks, Gameloft + Failed Economy! :)
Good Evening Folks,
maybe Gameloft is setting Down all those prices because soon the Holidays are starting in Europa and also soon in other Countries. Millions of Kids are getting Money for their Grades ;)
Besides this, you should have mentioned that their is also a Demo Version of Hero of Sparta so all those that are still unsure can try out the Game before bouying it:
http://itunes.apple.com/Web...
The Game is really worth the Money if your are a Fan of Hack & Slay.
I don't get it ... how can they make any money selling these great games for only 99 cents? It seems like you can always just wait, if some game comes out that you like, and it will eventually be 99 cents, no matter what it costs at first.
Because this game was released last year and has likely paid for itself over and over?
Another news that make me not so happy as an indie developer... How are we suppose to compete with big studio such as GameLoft who have large teams of developer/artists/QA, etc...
I really don't see any good thing for all developers with that, soon consumer will start to demand FREE as 0.99$ will be to expensive for more casual games. Maybe they will even ask us to pay them to play our games.
This downward spiral for pricing toward the FREE have to stop! Of course consumer around here will never complain on getting thing FREE though :-(.
I wonder if that strategies from those big studios is to crush smaller indie developer that were successful with 0.99$ games.
Nah, don't waste time worrying. Just release a good quality product and people will be more than happy to pay you for it.
You, sir, are tripping balls.
Your fears are unfounded and a tad ridiculous, I dare say. Relax.
At .99 price point games become commodity items (like a bag of chips or a soda). Your not competing against this game since anyone who can afford this game can also afford your game in addition. You'll have to work to get your game noticed for its merits, its very doubtful this game or any other will have a direct impact on your sales at the .99 price point. It becomes a question of how well you can market your game at that point.

THANK
YOU
This is my point exactly. When the competition sells games for 99 cents while you price yours at say $4,99, that simply means gamers will be able to afford both games, as opposed to having to pick and choose between two games that cost five bucks.
All this whining is completely unmerited.
Sadly the AppStore isn't a meritocracy like many people already pointed out. If it was then its true that the quality even from unknown developer will come to the top. But now its based on download/sales, which is why a lot of developer put their pricing very low (FREE lite version or 0.99$). Before most of those title were by other indie developer so gamer could see game made by Dave, John, Fred, Bjorn, etc... Big studio already have a lot of visibility even at higher price due that they have enough fund to make big marketing campaign and they release well known IP.
But the more big studio adopt this strategy the difficult it will be for smaller indie to be seen. As most gamer will go toward name that are familiar with (either the name of the game or the developer/publisher).
I know this is the free world and a capitalist economy, it was just my wishful thinking that the AppStore could bring more chance for new comer.
Sorry for being naive and rant about it. The hot weather probably didn't help me to think deeper.
There are no meritocracies in any medium. Look at the top ten movies or tv shows or bestseller lists for books. The worst crap with the best marketing always sells the most.
At least the app store and stuff like Xbox live gives indie developers a chance. A few years ago your only hope would be to release a game as shareware on the Pc.
Oh boohoo poor baby! Make your game good enough and people will buy it.
This is a free market economy mate, not \"Fred\'s monopoly\".
Play it on 3GS, on 3G the framerate sucks. Otherwise nice, bit easy game.
This game was unplayable for me on the 3g but I loooove this game on my new 3gs!
I nearly fell asleep playing this...so boring. Mash mash mash!!!
I wish people would stop offering me good games at very cheap prices! I can't afford to keep buying games :D
