Notable Releases: Urban Tycoon, Hooked: Pocket Fishing, Nanosaur 2, Loot Wars

Unfortunately, we don’t have time to review every new release that appears in the App Store, but here are a few new releases that we thought were worth a look (along with part of their App Store descriptions):

Nanosaur 2 ($3.99)

In Nanosaur 2 you pilot a flying dinosaur from the future who is equipped with massive firepower! Your goal is to find and retrieve the missing dinosaur eggs, and to do that you’ll have to blow up a whole lotta stuff! You’ll battle other Nanosaurs and their defense systems, and collect powerups which give you a large array of weaponry ranging from heat seeking missiles to cluster bombs.

Nanosaur 2 was originally a Mac game which is still available as a downloadable demo.

Loot Wars ($1.99)

Loot Wars is a multiplayer online item collection game. Players can scavenge, trade, or fight each other to win possession of a host of interesting items. Loot ranges from the fantastic Elven Dagger, fanciful Reading Glasses, awesome Stealth Fighter, everyday Laptop, to delicious Fish and Chips.

Trying to fill the casual multi-player niche.

Urban Tycoon ($1.99)

Urban Tycoon puts the city in your hands.. literally! Pinch and swipe your way through your city. The goal of Urban Tycoon is to build a financially flourishing metropolis that’s environmentally safe and low on crime. As an urban tycoon you will have complete control of your urban area’s budget… so spend it wisely.

We previously posted a teaser video for Urban Tycoon which hopes to attract Sims fans.

Hooked: Pocket Fishing ($0.99)

Hooked: Pocket Fishing is the first completely interactive fishing experience for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Hooked: Pocket Fishing simulates casting, reeling, setting the line, changing your reel rate to compensate for the fish’s behavior, and managing your equipment for the best chances at catching a fish.

Forum members have already been recommending this fishing game which has now been dropped to $0.99.

I love uno but $8...? Give it 2 months it will be $1. Oh by the way ... Quake

I've been waiting for this game to drop ever since the app store opened it's doors. I've already played a few rounds of it and am very pleased with the end result. All is not perfect with this port of the game, it's missing online multilayer game play. I have my fingers crossed that Gameloft will release an update that allows for online play against players around the world.

Looks pretty good. However, the price is higher than the physical card game. A more reasonable starting price for this game would be the Texas Hold'em price of $4.99.

so i went to the app store and i could not find the game even if i wanted to buy it what is the deal

  5. cjelly

Urgh, the XBLA version if $5 and that has online play... :-/

I wanted this game so badly on the iPhone but with a price tag like this it looks like i'll have to wait even longer for it to drop in price.

    7.99 is just retarded
4.99 would have been much more reasonable.
    1.99 would be perfect

Cjelly, this version of Uno also has online play! I somehow over looked the online multilayer option, but it is indeed there. Thankfully I was wrong about the online play. When you consider online play is free (unlike XBLA) $7 becomes a bargain for this game. Also I haven't yet found a portable version of this game that even match the graphics.. This one closely resembles the XBLA version too. I consider this the perfect portable compliment to the XBLA version of the same game.

is it worldwide multiplayer, or just on your network?

  9. Phoenixfury

Sldrofhla, I don't know if online multilayer is worldwide, but can tell you that you can certainly play others online, not just others locally. I just took on someone named 666 not much more than 15 minutes ago.

so there is online, i didn't mean worldwide, but you can definitely play people on different networks? I wonder why they don't say that in the description. I just want to make sure before spending 8 bucks on this. thanks

Well, the retail price of a pack of Uno cards is $8, so I guess that's how they priced it.

  12. hatdude

$8 with no online. No thanks I will wait until this drops to $0.99.

  13. Phoenixfury

Hatdude, has local and online multilayer. This article just happened to fail mention of the online play. LOL

All I can do is echo the sentiments above... it looks nice, but $8 is rather silly. Gameloft seems to target that portion of the market though, they rarely go out on a limb from what I've seen. They market toward owners who will gladly pay for well recognizable titles or clones thereof.

In this case, the $8 is probably in part due to paying licensing fees.
As a business, I suppose it's their choice to make.

Wonderful graphics. Didn't know you were not allowed to put 2 cards if you had two three's for example. Haven't tried online play yet, though I see the option, but so far it looks like a polished game.

The game is nicely done with voiceovers, music and animations. Which also makes it a memory hog. If you have trouble with it crashing, reboot your phone to clear out memory. Reminds me a lot of the Xbox version. Very similar style and feel.

I posted some of my own views and screenshots on TouchFans.

Verdict: I love it! Very similar to the XBLA version. Well polished, with good gameplay. It costs less then an actual Uno deck, and you get online play as well.

I'd definitely recommend it to Uno fans.
