Once again, Apple has revealed that it’s not interested in the console biz. Speaking at the D10 conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that while Apple is into gaming, it is not all that into the lean-back gaming space. The medium is evolving in front us anyway as mobile becomes increasingly more popular, he added.
“I view that we are in gaming now in a fairly big way," Cook said, according to AllThingsD. “Gaming has kind of evolved a bit. More people play on portable devices. Where we might go in the future, we’ll see. Customers love games."
“I’m not interested in being in the console business in what is thought of as traditional gaming," he added. “But Apple is a big player today, and things in the future will only make that bigger."
Mobile is growing; Cook’s right. Perhaps the coolest thing about this is the amount of unique games we’ve been seeing as a result. A lot of amazing stuff has been released over on mobile over the past year, and each week brings a few games that are, at the very least, interesting. This isn’t happening in the console space, which has been relying on the same consumers to buy into the latest flavor of Modern Or Sci-Fi WarShooter: On A Field for years now.
