Roto Force is a game that has been in development for a number of years now, but as spotted in our forums today it appears this one has finally has a release date set for next month. First off, Roto Force is a run ‘n gun shooter at heart, but with levels that rotate, hence the name. You can move left and right and shoot, but rather than jumping you can dash across the entire screen to any side of the level (except the one you’re already standing on, of course). You’ll use these mechanics to evade a constant stream of bullets, enemies, and hazards, making your way through 9 different levels and unlocking 9 different weapons. There are also 30 mini-bosses and 10 full boss fights you’ll encounter along the way. Roto Force is being published by Plug in Digital and you can see it in action below.
This started life as a game jam project by developer Anton Klinger aka Accidentally Awesome Games for the Game Boy Jam 5 back in 2016, a jam that limits projects to similar restrictions to the original Game Boy hardware. After that jam version, titled Pixel Soldier, was well-received, Klinger continued working on the project in the years that followed, adding in the rotation mechanic and eventually busting out from some of those original Game Boy restrictions. The result is the highly polished and frantic experience you see in the Roto Force trailer above, and it seems like the kind of game that will be a perfect fit for mobile. You can pre-order the game on the iOS App Store or on the Google Play Store where it’ll be free initially with a full game unlock IAP, and you can also find the PC version on Steam where a free demo is currently available. Roto Force has an expected release date of July 17th.
