In late 2020 developer Cyan Worlds released Myst for virtual reality platforms, a full 3D remake of their landmark 1993 adventure title of the same name built entirely in 3D using the Unreal Engine, allowing players to free roam the lands of Myst like never before. The following year that VR version was adapted for normal screens and released across PC and console platforms, and as we learned just last week, that version was also on its way to iOS. Well today is the big day iOS gamers, as the game officially titled Myst Mobile is now available. Here is a trailer from the PC version’s release to give you an idea of what it’s like in action.
This isn’t the first time the original Myst’s static pre-rendered environments have been brought into the 3rd dimension, as realMyst aimed to do that more than 20 years ago. However, technology has advanced just a wee little bit since then, and the gorgeous Unreal Engine version of these classic environments is nothing short of stunning in this latest Myst remake. The Myst series itself is also no stranger to mobile, as the original was ported to mobile way back in 2009 and its sequel Riven followed in 2010. Then in 2012 realMyst joined the mobile party. As for this new Myst Mobile release, it’s very easy and economical to experience it for yourself. The game is free to download and includes Myst Island in its entirety for you to explore and play through to your heart’s content, with no time limit or anything. A one-time $14.99 IAP will unlock the full game featuring the rest of the Ages of Myst, but as a special launch promotion that full unlock IAP is 33% off and just $9.99. The only caveat is that you’ll need a fairly recent device to play the game as it only supports those with an A12 Bionic chip or above, which also includes any M1 or M2 devices.
