Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. You know, I figured we would have more Valentine’s Day updates this week. Maybe next week? Lots of great Apple Arcade updates in particular this time, but plenty of other stuff too. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Subway Surfers, Free Those Subway Surfers kids are headed to Oxford, and I’m not sure anything good can come from that. You can unlock a new surfer, the armored Soul, and the Ghastly Glider Board to go with him. Pink has a new Spellcaster outfit you can earn by collecting enough Event Coins, and there’s a special Valentine’s Day Tag Team Attack where you can unlock both Charlie and Miss Maia. Get out there and hit those books!
Jetpack Joyride, Free I mean, I guess if you look at it from the right angle, Ghostbusters could be a romantic movie. The, you know, romantic story of Peter Venkman and Dana Barrett? Maybe some little sparks there between Egon and Janine? Either way, Ghostbusters is the latest event in Jetpack Joyride. Collect Vinz, Zuul, and Mooglie, nab a free Slime Blower Jetpack, ride the Terror Dog, and grab various other goodies. Act now, as this event will probably only come back seven or eight more times this year.
Fire Emblem Heroes, Free Fire Emblem Heroes is celebrating its sixth anniversary, which is quite the milestone for the game. There are a number of new events live to mark the occasion, so drop in and check those out if you’re interested. There’s a new Focus Charge feature for summoning events, some new Aether Resort accessories, and some shuffling of Heroes among certain summoning categories. Since this is the game’s birthday and all, I suppose I will award it the coveted UMMSotW prize for this week.
MARVEL SNAP, Free Ah Marvel Snap, I love Marvel Snap. So much fun. This latest update was a big one, big enough that I wrote a separate story about it a few days back. The gist of is that there is a new Battle Mode where you can face off against friends and anyone else you share your Battle Code with. This update also makes it so that you can change your display name if you’re that-way inclined. Throw a few audiovisual tweaks and a handful of balance adjustments, and that’s about the size of it.
Cut the Rope Remastered, And now we swing into the Apple Arcade updates for the week. Well, some of them, anyway. Cut the Rope Remastered gets a new Winter-themed board game with twelve new levels to play, just in time for the warmer weather to start creeping in. Aside from that, this is an update mostly concerned with correcting a few bugs that were causing trouble in certain situations. And you know how we feel about that kind of thing around here: excited! Yay, bug fixes! And if we’re all very good, there may also be performance improvements. Maybe!
SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit, Hunh, another Winter-themed update for this week’s article. I guess February is pretty darned cold, but you’d figure these would hit more in December. At any rate, this update adds a new mode called Tales of the Deep with original stories told via weekly level unlocks. There’s a Winter Waterland story you can play, a bunch of UI improvements have been made, and there are new daily rewards to earn. Rounding things out, some adjustments to the game balance have been made and bug fixes have been implemented. Super. Love it.
JellyCar Worlds, I’m a man of simple tastes at times, and one of those simple tastes is grappling mechanics. Jelly Car Worlds has a whole new world to play in, World 7, and it adds a new grapple ability to the game. You can be like the car version of that web-slinging weasel! I want pictures of Jelly Car Worlds! Aside from that relatively significant addition, you’ve also got a number of UI tweaks, added options, bug-squishing, and various optimizations. Heck yeah, Grapple Car.
LEGO® Star Warsâ„¢: Castaways, Begun, the Clone Wars have. In the last update to this game, there was an event based on Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Well, things are looking up because the latest event is a Star Wars: The Clone Wars event, and that is considerably better source material. Complete quests and earn minifig parts for the clones. Over in the HoloSim levels, you’ll have a shot at the fearsome Droidekas. Sure, sounds fun. All the stuff they get up to on this desert island, I swear.
Solitaire Stories, A big step for the ol’ Solitaire Stories today as it checks off another hotly-requested item for players. Tri-Peaks solitaire is now available to play in the game, joining the other types of solitaire on offer. On top of that, you get a couple of new events in the form of The Pod and Crystal Caverns, plus a new updated story in the form of Pantaloony Remix. Oh hey, there’s one more event here. Romeo & Juliet is a limited-time event, presumably to tie in to Valentine’s Day. Ah, the romantic tale. Never found out how it ended but I’m sure those wacky kids made it in the end.
Toon Blast, Free We’ll finish things off this week with our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle update of the week. It’s Toon Blast. Yes, Toon Blast again. If you’re a regular reader of the column, you probably know the rest of it. Fifty new levels to play, assuming you’re anywhere near caught up at this point. A flimsy story premise, this time involving some sort of flying. That’s about it. Go match some pieces.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
