It seems like just about any character you can think of has had an auto-running mobile game at some point in time. In fact, with Mario, Sonic, and Crash Bandicoot all having their own runner games (or I guess had in the case of poor old Crash) that covers the entire trifecta of ’90s console war mascots. A more contemporary console mascot would be Sackboy from Sony’s LittleBigPlanet series, and indeed this adorable little fellow has also had his own mobile running game already with 2014’s Run Sackboy! Run! However, THAT was a side-scrolling auto-runner, and what Sackboy really wants is a 3rd person runner. Enter Ultimate Sackboy, a new 3rd person runner starring Sony’s plucky little mascot. Apparently the premise here is that Sackboy is entered into some sort of Olymics-style games competition, or something? Here’s the trailer.

Along with all the running there is a huge emphasis on collecting clothing items and customizing your Sackboy to your liking. I’m talking thousands of unlockable and upgradeable clothing options, and in an interesting twist you can actually compete against other players where your competitor’s outfit can actually be the reward for winning. It’s like racing for pink slips but with costumes. Ultimate Sackboy has actually been in various stages of testing or soft launch for quite some time now, so chances are you may have seen this one at some point depending on where you live. However, a proper global launch is on the horizon so look for this one to arrive everywhere on both iOS and Android devices on February 21st.
