Studio Onoma (previously Square Enix Montreal) just announced that it will be shutting down Hitman Sniper: The Shadows (Free), Deus Ex GO ($4.99), and more. The games will be delisted on December 1st, and they will be unplayable for everyone from January 4th. In app purchases have been stopped, and Onoma warns that refunds for unused in app purchases will not be granted after they are unusable from January 4th. While any online only mobile game can shut down, I’m quite disappointed to see Deus Ex GO be shut down since it hasn’t been ported anywhere else. Check out the full announcement below:

Ahead of the games being shut down, you can download Hitman Sniper: The Shadows on the App Store for iOS here and Google Play for Android here for free. Head over to our Hitman Sniper: The Shadows forum thread here for discussion around the release. You can also grab Deus Ex GO on the App Store for iOS here and Google Play for Android here if you’d like to play it ahead of its shutdown. I wouldn’t recommend buying it since it will not be playable soon.
Deus Ex Go becoming unplayable, as an offline, single player game seems implausible. If they can stop functionality then it is egregious overreach. What is the value? It's a bad look, and it'll be impossible to stop Android players from playing it. Backing up the APK just in case.
Best case for them, people don't care and no one pirates it...which is a 'bad, no value for anyone' best case. Worst case, it dissuades people from buying future games, and points them towards pirated versions to maintain access. And I'd think they'd want to keep people from starting down that road.
So, what's the benefit of doing this again?
I just tested it out, and even though an in-game message did say that it was not going to be available after January 4th even for current users, I can still play it. So this is all very strange.
