SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘The Battle of Polytopia’, ‘LEGO Bricktales’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for October 12th, 2022. In today’s article, we’ve got several new releases to look at. Mostly good ones, surprisingly enough. After that, we’ve got some new sales to check out along with the expiring discounts of the day. A bit of a lighter bite today, but that’s how some Wednesdays go. Let’s get into it!

New Releases

The Battle of Polytopia ($14.99)

A simple yet surprisingly deep turn-based strategy game with a rather cute aesthetic, The Battle of Polytopia has managed to win tons of fans on mobile and PC with its high-quality, thoroughly accessible gameplay. It has its sights set on Switch owners next, and something tells me it’s going to do just fine. You get all twelve regular tribes in this version, with three game modes, configurable map types, procedurally-generated maps, and support for up to eight players via local multiplayer. Mikhail is cooking up a review for this one, so do look forward to that.

LEGO Bricktales ($29.99)

So many LEGO games out there, but so very few of them involve any actual building. LEGO Bricktales, if nothing else, has building. You’ll have to solve puzzles by building solutions, brick by brick. You’ll visit a bunch of locales that will be familiar to long time fans of LEGO, and will need to help out various characters with their problems. I’ll have a review of this one soon. I’m a bit mixed on it, so I need to spend a bit more time with it to settle my opinion.

Unusual Findings ($19.99)

Some people really did like Stranger Things enough to make their own point-and-click style adventure game that isn’t even trying to hide its source of inspiration. This game is set during the 1980s, of course. Three friends end up having an unexpected encounter one night while trying to watch an adult movie on cable. An alien is on the loose, and it seems to be hostile towards humans. Can these kids find a way to stop it? The presentation and plot are the strong points here, but the puzzle design and somewhat buggy nature of the game make it a little tough to recommend.

Warpips ($19.99)

Kind of a simplified take on a strategy game that opts to focus on the broader picture and leave the micromanagement to other games. You get to assemble and upgrade your army then send them into battle to see how they fare. You can call in air strikes, missile attacks, and artillery. The battles are randomly generated, and you get both a campaign mode and an endless mode. Is that enough for twenty bucks? A lot of people who played the game on other platforms would say so.

Bloodwash ($9.99)

A serial killer who targets pregnant women is on the loose! It would seem ill-advised for a young pregnant woman to go out and do laundry at the laundromat late at night given that fact, but here we are. This game has a low-poly PlayStation-style look to its visuals, and that certainly lends it a particular atmosphere. Horror games are not really my thing, but if they are yours, this game seems to have been very well-received by players on other platforms.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Ubisoft is having another one of its regular sales, and there doesn’t seem to be anything unusual about this one. There are a few other bits and bobs in there, but that’s the bulk of it. The outbox is more interesting, with some of the Arcade Archives Taito games, the Picross games, the Mana games, and the Valis games going back to their regular prices after what are some very rare sales indeed. Check those lists!
