Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for October 5th, 2022. In today’s article, we have a little bit of news to look at before we head into the new releases of the day. The big one is Overwatch 2, at least in terms of marketing hype. I’ve taken a look at another accessory from the folks at EPOS today as well. After that, we check in on the latest sales and expiring discounts of the day. It’s a bit quiet today, but that’s how it is sometimes. Let’s get to what we’ve got!
News
A Nintendo Direct Dedicated to the ‘Super Mario’ Movie Has Been Announced
Announced ages ago, the new Super Mario Bros. Movie will finally be properly unveiled tomorrow afternoon. Nintendo will be holding a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the movie at 1:05 PM PT where it will show off the first trailer. The announcement makes it very clear that no game information will be presented, so please don’t tune in expecting a Mother 3 announcement. That time translates to 5:05 AM where I live, so I will have to catch up on the, um, reactions afterwards.
New Releases
Overwatch 2 (Free)
It’s Overwatch 2, which I guess is really just an updated Overwatch? It’s free-to-play now with in-app purchases driving monetization. Thirty-five heroes, twenty-two maps, several gameplay modes, and five-on-five action. Yes, team sizes are down one member now. That may well be the biggest change to the nuts and bolts of things. Anyway, it’s free. If you’re interested, go and grab it. Good luck with logging in right now, though.
Yum Yum Cookstar ($39.99)
Remember the kerfuffle a few years back between the owners of the Cooking Mama IP, Office Create, and the original publisher of Cooking Mama: Cookstar, Planet Entertainment? Well, I guess Planet Entertainment has decided to move on with the Cookstar series minus Mama. This plays very much along the same lines as the that previous Cooking Mama game but with a few extra twists. Notably, it seems the publisher has tapped the writers of National Lampoon to create some witty dialogue for the judges at the tournaments. I personally didn’t think Cookstar was all that great, but perhaps being freed from the constraints of the Cooking Mama IP will yield some better results this time around.
Bus Driving Simulator 22 ($27.99)
Hop into the big driver’s seat of buses in three different cities: Munich, Rio de Janeiro, and Los Angeles in this new release from SC Ovilex Soft. Do the usual business in single-player or head online to play with up to eight players in multiplayer. This looks like a proper effort as far as this kind of thing goes, but I’m not really well-versed enough in this niche to say how it measures against its peers. I do know this particular publisher’s efforts seem to be fairly popular
Tribe Explorer ($4.99)
This appears to be a pretty standard precision platformer starring a slightly uncomfortable stereotype. There are only fifteen levels in total, so it’s not going to take you too long to get through. Personally, I’d save that fiver for tomorrow, but you do you.
Accessory Highlight
EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Wireless Earbuds ($149.00)
After having a chance to look at one of EPOS’s gaming headsets a few months back and finding myself enjoying it, I was all too happy to have a look at one of the company’s other products. This time, it’s the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Wireless Earbuds. They share a lot of the advantages and disadvantages of the EPOS H3 Hybrid Gaming Headset, but overall I was less enthused with them. As Bluetooth earbuds, they’re decent. The sound is nice and they really do fill the ears. Indeed, I ended up getting the most use out of them with my iPhone. But I’m reviewing them as a Switch accessory, so we’re perhaps off on a bad foot already.
When using them with your Switch, you have to make use of the included dongle for a low-latency connection. It doesn’t stick out too much from the system, but it doesn’t fit in the handy little carrying case for the earbuds so you’ll have to find somewhere to keep it if you want to use it on the road. If you only mean to use the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid earbuds for audio on your Switch, they do the job well but perhaps not as well as you would hope at this price point. The microphone feature just isn’t up to the audio experience. Other players found my voice muffled and a bit hard to hear. Granted, there aren’t many cases where you are likely to be using a mic in a Switch game.
If the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid earbuds were under a hundred dollars, I’d probably have an easier time recommending them. Probably just for audio use, but still. At the current price, I can really only get behind picking these up if you really need a wireless solution that can, technically, do most of the things you need done. Otherwise, you can probably find a better answer for your gaming audio needs, even with EPOS’ own product line.

Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
One of those days where the outbox is a lot bigger than the inbox. Indeed, I don’t have much to say anything about the games in the inbox apart from Garden Story, which is quite decent. In the outbox, KEMCO’s most recent sale is coming to a close alongside the entire Pixel Game Maker Series line. Grab what you will.
