During Tokyo Game Show a couple of weeks ago, SNK and NetMarble announced a new King of Fighters mobile game called The King of Fighters Arena. Other than the name and some lovely look art, there wasn’t a whole lot known about what the actual game was all about. Now the developers are slowly starting to lift the lid off of this one as today pre-registration has gone live for The King of Fighters Arena along with some new information about the game. This is described as a PvP battler featuring real-time fights with other players online, and according to the game’s App Store description it will feature “every KOF fighter." That’s… that’s a lot of characters. The King of Fighters series as a whole is creeping up on its 30th anniversary, so you can imagine just how many characters have appeared throughout the 15 mainline entries and numerous spin-offs over the last three decades. Here’s a new teaser video for The King of Fighters Arena.
While that teaser doesn’t appear to show much in the way of actual gameplay, a different trailer in the App Store does and this appears to be a simplified fighting game tailored for touchscreen play, but with extremely over-the-top special moves. I’m guessing it’s somewhere in between a full-blown fighting game and one that has been streamlined for touchscreens like Injustice or Marvel Contest of Champions. Whatever the case, it’s very intriguing and visually things are looking great. As you could probably guess The King of Fighters Arena will be a free to play game, and as per usual there is a big pre-registration campaign going on with the potential to unlock some rewards for future players. You can pre-register on the iOS App Store or on the Google Play Store for Android for a special art and background collection, and you can pre-register on the game’s website itself using your email to unlock a special title and title panel. While I don’t think an official release date has been confirmed just yet, the expected date in the App Store is November 16th so it shouldn’t be too long before we can check out The King of Fighters Arena for ourselves.
