SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Shovel Knight Dig’, ‘Serial Cleaners’, Plus Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 23rd, 2022. In today’s article, we’ve got the rest of this week’s releases to look at. There are actually a few big games today, including the hot-hot-hot Shovel Knight Dig. We’ve got summaries of all of the games, plus the lists of new and outgoing sales for you to consider. Let’s dig in! I’m not sorry!

New Releases

Shovel Knight Dig ($24.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

I found my Highlight stamp. It was lost for a while. Anyway, this is Nitrome’s brilliant roguelite digging game starring Shovel Knight, and if you like games like Downwell you’ll want to get in on this. There is one thing I should mention, but probably don’t need to: you can play this on Apple Arcade. Like, right now. Personally, this is a game I want to own, but if you just want to fill your boots for a few months then you may want to consider the subscription to Apple Arcade instead. Dig after Drill Knight, recover your loot, and enjoy an all-new adventure with our well-seasoned pal.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival ($49.99)

Here’s the latest Taiko no Tatsujin game. Pound the drums to the beat in 76 included songs plus hundreds more online. There are additional songs you can buy via IAPs, but the newest feature is the Taiko Music Pass, which is a subscription service that gives you access to more than five hundred additional songs. New songs will be added every month, and you can download your favorites to take them on the road with you. You can enjoy local play with up to four players, or hop online for some one-on-one.

DreamWorks Dragons: Legends of the Nine Realms ($49.99)

The latest game in the DreamWorks Dragons series is an overhead action-RPG where Thunder and his pals are trying to rescue his family and save the dragon kingdoms. There are a handful of different dragons to use, and you can level them up to unlock new skills and abilities. Shame this is single-player only as it might be fun to play with a younger family member. As with anything from Outright Games, the price will likely drop precipitously if you’re willing to wait.

Serial Cleaners ($24.99)

The follow-up to Serial Cleaner goes for the subtle style of sequel titling. Anyway, it’s another top-down stealth-action affair. It’s New York in the 1990s, and you’re a “cleaner" for the mob. Remove bodies, clean up any and all messes, and don’t leave any evidence behind. Most importantly of all, don’t get caught. You have four different characters, each with their own skills, and you’ll need to use all of them wisely to carry out each job. Could that set in the above screenshot be more familiar?

Roar of Revenge ($4.99)

This is pretty obviously an homage to Taito’s Rastan, but it sprinkles in some adventure elements to make it feel like its own thing. It has that stiff quality to its action that is unmistakably old-school, so be sure you’re okay with that before you jump in. You can find relics that give you new abilities, and there are multiple endings to unlock. Pretty nifty for a fiver.

Blind Fate: Edo no Yami ($24.99)

All dressed up with nowhere to go, that’s this game in a nutshell. It looks good and the setting has a lot of promise, but it’s just not very enjoyable to play. You play as a character who is left in a pretty sorry condition at the start of the game and slowly need to piece yourself back together. Most notably, you’ve lost your eyes. You’re given abilities to help compensate, but it’s up to you how much you want to trust them. So yes, some cool ideas. But it’s clunky and rough enough mechanically that I can’t really recommend it.

League of Enthusiastic Losers ($9.99)

This is an adventure game set in 1990s Moscow about a pair of friends who are down on their luck. They need some money to pay their rent, so they set out to find a way to make it. It’s an interesting tale of coming-of-age in a very particular time and place, and while I can’t speak to its authenticity it’s certainly evocative. As an adventure game it’s lacking, so if you buy in make sure you’re doing it for the experience rather than the gameplay bits.

I Love Finding MORE Pups – Collector’s Edition ($9.99)

Yes, it’s another one of these. Find the hidden dogs, and whatever other objects the game asks you to find. Six different locations, twelve different minigames.

Classic Games Collection Vol.2 ($4.99)

Given the “Vol.1" tag on the first one, I expected a follow-up a lot sooner than this. Well, that’s how it goes sometimes. This one includes Mahjong Solitaire, Word Search, Battleship, and Hangman. You can play the latter two games with a second player via local multiplayer. It’s trying to keep that pen-and-paper aesthetic that a couple of the games from the first one used, but it looks a bit weird with Mahjong Solitaire.

Car Mechanic Pinball ($4.99)

An odd thing this is. It’s pinball, but you’re flinging cars instead of a ball. By doing so, you’ll make money that you can use to upgrade your workshop. Hit mechanics to fix the cars, and hit workshops to upgrade them. I don’t know if it’s good, but I guess it’s at least unusual.
