Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Royal Match’, ‘Jetpack Joyride’, ‘Marvel Puzzle Quest’, ‘PicoPico’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It’s Labor Day, so I am here laboring. I believe that is the point of the holiday? Perhaps I’ve gotten something confused. Setting that matter aside, here are a bunch of updates to look at as you celebrate your labor in the manner of your choosing. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Subway Surfers, Free The Subway Surfers are off to another location for their antics, and this time it’s… Shenzhen. Hm. Maybe not the best timing for your World Tour to head there, kiddos. Oh well. There’s a new Surfer named Zi Hao, a new Moped Board, a new Street Outfit for Maeko, and a few other bits and bobs to entertain you. Fiction and reality can collide in strange ways sometimes.

Jetpack Joyride, Free Jetpack Joyride is, somehow, eleven years old. Yes, the game originally released all the way back in the year 2011, which was actually a really terrible year all things considered. Despite the fact that the game was born in the 2010s, it is celebrating its birthday with some 1970s throwback stuff. Disco Barry, the Disco Ball Jetpack, and a retro version of Mr Cuddles. Sure, why not? The 1970s had some good stuff. Nice music. That whole Atari thing. Not bad.

Fruit Ninja Classic+, Speaking of long-running games, I can’t believe this one is still kicking. It’s almost hard to remember the era where silly little gimmick touchscreen games ruled the roost. Only a few relics of that era remain, and it makes me kind of wistful to think about that. Oh, the update. Blade Powers have returned to the game, so power up your blades and take advantage of their improved juice-splattering. You’ll need Blade Duplicates from the Bonus Spin game to do it. Slicing up fruit? In this economy? Ninjas sure are decadent.

LEGO® Star Warsâ„¢: Castaways, Another new event for LEGO Star Wars Castaways. Frankly, that island is pretty busy for a supposedly deserted place. Almost as many visitors as Gilligan’s Island. This latest event is a tie-in with The Bad Batch, allowing you to collect minifig parts, ride microfighters, and build sandcastles inspired by the show. I don’t know. I just feel like this game is wearing too many hats. But it seems to be popular, so what do I know? Nothing, that’s what. Take a hike, Shaun! Beat it!

PAC-MAN Party Royale, Alright, let’s see what’s going on with this Apple Arcade Pac-Man game. The second Festival Season has started, and Bandai Namco already has its eyes on the third and fourth seasons. Apparently a new Soccer maze theme will be ready to go with the third season, and three new goals have been added to the Festival mode. It’s also somehow already gearing up for Halloween, despite that being almost two months away. That holiday comes earlier every year.

Angry Birds Reloaded, Oh hey, it is about time for the Moon Festival, isn’t it? Angry Birds Reloaded is celebrating the season with some new levels. Forty-five of them, to be precise. Find all eight slices of mooncake, seek out more Golden Eggs, and unlock bonus stages. You know how all of this works, I’m sure. It’s Angry Birds, after all. It’s even older than Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, we’ve all played it. More levels, which is about all we’d want out of an Angry Birds update by this stage.

SP!NG, Phew, I am running out of gas quickly here. I can’t even think of any stupid jokes. People, if I can give you one piece of advice for happy and healthy life, it’s that it starts with making sure you get a good night of sleep most nights. You think it doesn’t catch up to you, but one day it will. Get some sleep. Get enough of it. And I guess play the eighteen new levels of SP!NG in this second chapter of RUSH Mode. But not during hours when you should be sleeping.

Royal Match, Free Here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. I’ve picked Royal Match this time. There’s a whopping one hundred new levels to play with a new Fireworks gimmick. A new area in the form of the Fire Station has been added, which is something any sensible kingdom needs no matter how you slice it. And also very important when you’re going to be firing off fireworks. You never know when there might be an accident, and you’ll be happy you funded some firefighters if so.

PicoPico - 8bit Retro Games, Free It’s been several months since PicoPico added any new games, so I guess that’s all going very well. But here is a new one! It’s Compile’s C-SO for the MSX, and you can actually play it for free. It’s a fun little single screen arcade action game where you need to collect flowers and use the seesaws to launch the enemies into the air and kill them. An interesting little artifact.

MARVEL Puzzle Quest: Hero RPG, Free Oh, we’re at the end? I guess this wins the coveted UMMSotW award for the week then. I hope it’s a good one. Oh, it’s a tie-in with the new She-Hulk show. Yes, I’ve found that quite amusing so far. Fingers crossed for an Awesome Andy appearance. There’s a new reworked version of She-Hulk (Modern), and some issues have been fixed with The Hulk (Bruce Banner) to make him stronger. Which is odd, because I was under the impression that Hulk is already the strongest there is. Also, fixing issues would probably make Hulk happy. If the angrier Hulk get the stronger Hulk get, then the happier Hulk get the weaker Hulk get? Something doesn’t add up.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
