Sony just announced that it is set to acquire the mobile developer Savage Game Studios. Savage Game Studios was established in 2020 by people who worked at big studios across globally successful brands. This announcement is interesting for a few reasons. The first is of course that the studio is working on a new unannounced AAA mobile live service action game. Head of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, says this game will be revealed in the future, but it is too early to say more about it. Check out the official Savage Game Studios website here.
The second important part of the announcement, is that Savage Game Studios will be joining a newly created PlayStation Studios Mobile Division. This will operate independently from the console side, and work on mobile experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP. Hermen Hulst also says that this is a part of PlayStation’s continued drive to expand its audience and bring PlayStation to more people worldwide. Sony has been talking about expanding its reach with mobile and PC for a bit now, and while PC gamers have gotten some great ports on PC, it remains to be seen what happens with Sony’s mobile plans.
