Orangepixel’s Pacifist Survival Game ‘Residual’ Comes to iOS September 8th with Discounted Pre-Orders Available Now

Back in June we learned that long-time mobile developer Orangepixel, who also makes games for PC and consoles (including the Atari VCS!), would be bringing the unique survival game Residual to mobile devices sometime this year. Originally launched on PC and Switch in September of last year, Residual follows the exploits of a pilot who crash lands on a procedurally generated planet and then must survive long enough to piece back together their ship and escape. One of the unique things about the game is that there’s no direct combat, and instead you’ll do a lot of exploring, crafting, puzzle solving, and avoiding dangerous situations as you discover more about the planet and its inhabitants on your way to getting your ship back in working order. You can get a good idea of what Residual is all about by checking out its most recent trailer.

So while we learned in June that Orangepixel was putting in the final legwork to get the mobile version all finished up, what we didn’t know then was when the mobile version would actually be releasing. But now we know! Residual will launch on iOS on September 8th, just about a year to the day of when the PC and Switch versions launched last year, with an Android version to follow in the weeks afterward. The game has received a pretty significant UI overhaul both for the benefit of the new mobile version as well as to improve the existing console and PC versions, and it’ll feature full controller support as well as customizable virtual controls on mobile. You can pre-order the iOS version on the App Store right now for $4.99 which is 20% off of its regular price, and look forward to Residual’s mobile launch in just about a month’s time.
