Over the weekend, Lucas Pope published a new dev blog entry detailing how he brought his award-winning “Dystopian Document Thriller" Papers, Please ($4.99) to mobile from its initial desktop version going through the changes for platforms and more. Papers, Please arrived on iPhone through a universal update and also hit Android last week following its debut on iOS back in 2014 on iPad. I consider Papers, Please as one of the best games ever, and I’ve been enjoying replaying it on iPhone. The dev blog which you can read here discusses how Lucas adapted the game in Unity, changed the interface across aspect ratios, and more. These include how the game was adapted for PS Vita and iPad as well.
While the whole post is worth reading if you care about Papers, Please, the most interesting parts are how the carousel was implemented to make navigation feel good on mobile with its portrait orientation, and also how specific images had to be reworked. The post also has many GIFs of how the interface works on mobile if you’re curious about the port and don’t own it on iOS or Android. If you’d like to play it on mobile, check it out on the App Store for iOS here and Google Play for Android here. Read our review or the iPad version of Papers, Please. Check out our new forum thread for the game here and our guide on getting all the endings. Have you played Papers, Please yet or will you be jumping into it today with the update and new release?
