SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Wonder Boy Collection’, ‘TEN’, ‘EleMetals’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 3rd, 2022. In today’s article, we wrap up the remaining releases for the week. A few games that look decent, but nothing to go running up and down the streets yelling about. We’ve got summaries of all of them as usual. The sales are more interesting, with a particularly nice sale on the Shantae games to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series. Let’s get to it!

New Releases

Wonder Boy Collection ($29.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

We’ve already looked at this one in a review a couple of days back, but in case you missed it: this is a collection of four Wonder Boy games. You get the arcade Wonder Boy, the arcade Wonder Boy in Monster Land, the Genesis Wonder Boy in Monster World, and the Genesis Monster World IV. Some of these are available in slightly different forms already on Switch, and the collection is far from comprehensive. But what’s here is good, and it’s a solid enough package that in a vacuum is well-worth the price.

EleMetals: Death Metal Death Match! ($12.99)

A decent 2D arena battler with a heavy metal theme. Up to four players can get in on the fun via local multiplayer. If you don’t have any friends to go up against, there are thirty levels to play in single-player. I wouldn’t grab it unless you have some local buddies to play with though. If you do? It’s a nice addition your gaming night line-up.

TEN ($4.99)

Another one of those precision platformers, this one leaning on a gimmick wherein each room must be completed in ten seconds. The difficulty ramps up as you go, but so too do your abilities. Scoop up coins so you can do some good shopping. Not the most original thing in the world, but it does what it does decently enough for the price it’s asking.

KnightOut ($14.99)

You know what was a cool game? Rampart. Why can’t I buy Rampart on Switch? Come on, WB Games. Anyway, that game saw you building up your fort in one phase and then attacking your opponents in the other. And that’s kind of how this game works, but from a side-view perspective. Build up your castle, then battle. At first from a distance, then finishing with some melee combat. You can play with up to four players via local multiplayer, and that is probably the way to go if you can. There are rough edges a-plenty here, but the right sort of person could probably glean some entertainment from it.

Mr. Prepper ($15.49)

Doomsday prepping is a bit out of fashion these days, but I suppose a proper doomsday prepper would say this is exactly the time when people should double down on it. If you want to get a little practice in, here’s Mr. Prepper. It’s a survival game with plenty of crafting where you need to build your underground bunker and outfit it with everything you need to get through the end of times. Craft machines, deck out various facilities, trade with your neighbors, and complete quests. Oh, and watch out for the secret police. They’re out there, and they don’t like what you are doing. This game is quite well-liked over on PC, and while I imagine Ultimate Games has done their usual careless job in porting it, perhaps enough of the original zest remains to enjoy.

Horse Stable: Herd Care Simulator ($11.99)

Yeah, this doesn’t look very good at all. Create a horse, put together a herd, wash and feed them, and ride around a very low-quality open world. There are some different activities to do, including (hilariously) fighting bears. Why yes, this is a port of a mediocre free-to-play mobile game, how did you know? Even if you love horses, there are better ways to spend your money on the Switch eShop.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

As mentioned up above, there is a sale on all of the Shantae games in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the series. There are also some great sales on titles from ININ games like The Ninja Saviors and G-Darius HD, which just got a dandy free update. Nothing too substantial in the outbox, but you might as well give it a look while you’re at it.
