Hand-Drawn ‘Monkey Island’-Inspired Point-and-Click Adventure ‘Voodoo Detective’ Coming to Mobile and PC Next Week

Point-and-click adventure games are a perfect fit for mobile devices, and there have been dozens of fantastic adventures released on mobile over the years. Now Short Sleeve Studio is looking to add another to that list with their upcoming title Voodoo Detective. The first thing that stands out to me about Voodoo Detective is that it’s entirely hand-drawn, and it gives it a look that you just can’t achieve with pixel art or polygonal graphics. It’s also a pretty unique setting for a video game, taking place in 1934 on an island called New Ginen that is steeped in Voodoo culture. The island has become a haven for tourists, which irks the locals to no end, but one of those tourists is a woman who has completely lost her memory and so she hires the Voodoo Detective to help figure out what happened and who she is.

Another standout in Voodoo Detective is that the entire game is voice-acted with plenty of talent from well-known gaming and film properties such as “Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Final Fantasy, Fallout, Diablo, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Star Trek, Austin Powers and more" according to the developers. The soundtrack as well comes from a well-respected source in Peter McConnell of Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and Psychonauts fame. This has all the makings of an interesting and entertaining adventure, so I’ll be looking forward to checking out Voodoo Detective when it launches next week. It’s heading to PC on the Epic Games Store and Steam, as well as both iOS and Android, on May 24th.
