Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Fighting Fantasy Classics’, ‘Toon Blast’, ‘Outlanders’, ‘PUBG Mobile’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. A very spicy assortment of updates have arrived, with plenty of faces we don’t see very often in these hallowed halls. I’ve collected a bunch for you to mull over while enjoying your breakfast cup of toast. Mondays, eh? Just can’t seem to get them figured out. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Toon Blast, Free Let’s get the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update out of the way immediately. It’s Toon Blast. That probably shows you where my head space is at today, but what can you do? You get fifty new levels as always, and the theme this time is some nonsense about the Secret Service. Keep President Bear safe or something. I imagine he’s a frequent target of assassination attempts from the Kingdom of Candy. They’ve always been at war.

Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free The battles continue in the land of Disney, which is not to be confused with Disneyland. Like most updates to this game, this one expands the roster with a new character. This time, it’s one of the first ladies of Disney animation. Snow White is here and she’s ready to kick some butt, apparently. Hey, I get it. She basically got benched for all the cool stuff in her movie, so if she wants to get hands-on with some bad guys now who am I to say anything? Go get ’em, tiger.

Machinika Museum, Free Machinika Museum is a cool puzzle game that calls to mind the likes of The Room, and I am all for games like that. The only trouble with those games is that once you’ve figured out all the puzzles, what’s left to do? When you’re very lucky, you get a nice update like this one. It adds two new chapters to play, which means two new machines to poke at. Can you figure out their secrets? Yes, you probably can. Think of the fun you will have along the way, though. Mmm, dopamine.

MARVEL Future Revolution, Free Doctor Strange’s movie sequel has been out for a couple of weeks, and many of the other Marvel games on mobile have already done their events based on it. Future Revolution is a little late to the party, but better late than never. There’s a new playable character in this version in the form of the Scarlet Witch herself, plus the new Strange Encounter Epic Invasion to play through. Oh, and we mustn’t forget Wong, who joins the ranks as a new companion character. Aside from all of that, some other little improvements have been made here and there. Nothing you’ll probably notice, but important nonetheless.

Outlanders, The developers of Outlanders have something good cooking in this latest update. Heh heh. It’s cooking! That’s what they added! I made a little… a little play on words there! Stupendous. You didn’t expect that at all, I’m sure. Anyway, there are six tasty new dishes to choose from, and each has its own cooking stand. Aside from that, there are also six new levels to play with new characters, crops, and a fishing mechanic to mess with. If you’ve been waiting for a reason to revisit Outlanders, the dinner bell is ringing. The dinner bell! Ha!.

Kingdom Two Crowns, $6.99 Well, I’ve used up all my wit for this week, and judging by some of the produce that has been lobbed in my direction, I’m almost out of luck with the readers too. So let’s just move forward as we must. Kingdom Two Crowns got a lovely little patch, adding new difficulty modes that allow you to better tailor the challenge to your needs. There are now five levels of difficulty to pick from, and I recommend Cursed mode if you really want some spice in your belly. There’s also some business going on with the staff granted by the Loki Shrine in the Norse Lands that you may want to investigate. Aside from that, there are some bug fixes and performance improvements. You know, the staples. Not sure what we would do without them.

PUBG MOBILE, Free Ooh, we’ve hit a big version number here. That’s PUBG Mobile 2.0.0 to you, pal. So what is here to merit that? A total overhaul for Livik, some new collaboration modes, and some improvements to classic maps and gameplay. Urban areas have gotten plenty of attention, addding random Advanced Supply Zones, the Soccer Field, and Zip Lines. A new collaboration mode is incoming later this week, and the Metro Royale: Reunion will be coming back as well. There’s a new Emergency Pickup item you can use to get a ride to the playzone, and the new Alloy Armor gives you better defense. Livik has a new UTV vehicle for you to commandeer, and the game now includes support for haptic feedback on devices that offer it. Phew, that’s a lot! I guess I’ll give it the coveted UMMSotW award for this week.

Mini Motorways, Mini Motorways made its way to other platforms recently, and along with that came a big update for the Apple Arcade version. Dubbed the Night Lights update, it adds a night mode complete with headlights for the vehicles. There are also two new maps: Warsaw and Chiang Mai, both offering their own unique challenges for would-be road planners. The update notes also mention Steam Cloud syncing, but it seems like that was just copied over from the notes for other versions because it doesn’t appear to be here anywhere I can see it. Oh well, at least there are bug squashes and performance enhancements.

Fighting Fantasy Classics, Free Ah, for some reason this takes me back to better days. It’s almost a double-dip of nostalgia really. First, my nostalgia for Fighting Fantasy books. Then, my nostalgia for the old days of waiting for the next exciting Tin Man release on my iPhone. We’ve got a good one this time, friends. The amazing Mad Max-inspired Freeway Fighter is now available via IAP for the Fighting Fantasy Classics app. Plunk down a mere $3.99 and you’ll be ready to hop in your armed car and speed across a post-apocalyptic United States, battling all manner of rogues in order to save your settlement. Tin Man has done it up in its usual style, making this the best way to enjoy this classic. Give it a try!

Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, One question has been on the lips of gamers everywhere for the last year or so: how does the main story to Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls end? Well friends, that mystery can now be solved so we can all get on with our lives. The latest update to the game adds new grimoires including the final one. New missions, new equipment, new shop line-ups, and new heroes come with all of that, and pretty much every level cap has been raised to its maximum. There’s a new Soul Fragment shop, new Precious Gems, a new difficulty level, a New Game+ feature, and a whole lot more. I’d say this update more or less closes the book on the game, at least as fair as non-event content goes. So yeah, if you were waiting for the story to actually have a conclusion before getting into this game, now is the time.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
