EA just announced that it is working on a new mobile game in the The Lord of the Rings universe. This game is being made in partnership with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises. EA’s game is a free to play collectible RPG titled The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth aiming to bring the universe to old and new fans. As social and competitive experience, The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth promises high-fidelity graphics, stylish art, cinematic animations, and turn-based battles. The re will be characters from across the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. As of now, there are no gameplay details for The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. It is expected to have a beta in some regions this summer though.
While I am curious to see how The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth ends up looking and playing, I’m disappointed with the genre choice. There are so many genres that the brand would’ve fit better even on mobile. The announcement also mentions that The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth needs an internet connection to play and that it will include in app purchases (as expected). EA aims to release this to grow its own mobile business. A definite release date or window for the full version of The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth have not been announced yet. What would you like to see in The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth and will you be trying the regional beta this summer if it is available in your country?
