Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘The Oregon Trail’, ‘Fire Emblem Heroes’, ‘Tiny Tower’, ‘Subway Surfers’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There are more Easter updates this time, which I suppose is fitting as the holiday itself is right around the corner. It’s not all eggs, but there are enough of them to make you dizzy. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s get to work!

Jetpack Joyride, Free Well, you know Barry Steakfries isn’t going to miss out on a holiday if he can help it. He’s also not going to miss out on a chance to don a pink bunny suit. I don’t judge. The Easter event returns to Jetpack Joyride, with new Easter-exclusive vehicles, jetpacks, outfits, and skins to earn. You even get the Chocolate S.A.M. skin for free. The rest… you’ll have to earn one way or another. Fashion is hard work.

Zookeeper World, Zookeeper World already has rabbits and a special Easter 2022 event, so no new Easter stuff in this update. Instead, you get horses. Good ol’ zoo horses. Add them to your zoo once you reach the appropriate stage, along with some new decorations. There are twenty-five new stages to play, a new Zoo Rank to reach, and a new minigame called Super Jumpy that will be available later this week. Yes, that’s certainly a Zookeeper World update alright.

Tiny Tower: Tap Idle Evolution, Free Tiny Tower, on the other hand, has its big Easter update ready to roll in this new version of the game. Collect (or buy) tickets to spin the Lucky Wheel and get some goodies, including some new skins and pets. You can find the tickets among other rewards by searching for Easter eggs scattered about your tower. There’s also a new Easter roof, lobby, and elevator to add to your collection, and the whole tower will be decorated with Easter accessories for a limited time whether you likes it or not. A nice holiday-themed event.

The Oregon Trail, Another doozy of an update for Gameloft’s excellent take on the classic The Oregon Trail. The prologue has been given a total overhaul, giving you as much help or as little as you need to get started. Tons of new accessibility features have been added, including high contrast mode, the ability to disable event timers and screen shake, Text-to-Speech support for event text, and an option that allows you to automatically collect animals. In terms of new content, there are thirteen new events to discover on the trail, including a dog that you can pet. All that plus new visual filters in the gallery, a music shuffle option, and more. Wow, that’s a coveted UMMSotW award winner if I’ve ever seen one. Great job!

Fire Emblem Heroes, Free I mean yes, there is an Easter-themed Summoning Event going on right now, but I don’t think that’s the thrust of this particular update. Rather, this one updates the Arena Assault mode, adding a tactical retreat feature and chain rewards to the whole business. Options: people don’t usually hate them. Sometimes they do, but I don’t understand those people and maybe don’t want to. There’s also a new trap in Aether Raids called the Hex Trap. You can probably imagine what that does. But if you can’t, the game will explain it. That’s about the size of it.

Crossy Road Castle, Well, we were bound to get a full-on Easter combo breaker sooner or later, friends. And that combo breaker is none other than Crossy Road Castle. Its update is centered around raiding lost temples, with five new adventurers, deadly traps like rolling boulders and rivers of magma, and more. Get that whip cracking and don’t forget to bring your ticket if you board any airships. If all else fails, name yourself after the dog. What I’m saying is that this update is Indiana Jones-inspired. I just want to be clear about that.

Subway Surfers, Free The Subway Surfers kids are on the move again, this time to the place where a lot of the textbooks I use in my lessons come from: Oxford. Honestly, this update is kind of all over the place. You’ve got the Oxford setting, a tie-in with the Paris Marathon, and some Easter stuff to boot. The new Surfer seems to be a rabbit, until you notice the zipper on the back of his hood. Perhaps a cousin of that ghastly creature from Animal Crossing. There’s also a new board called the Rolls Rabbit. Fancy stuff, I’m sure.

Marvel Contest of Champions, Free Some bad guys have their sights set on Goldpool’s gold, and it’s up to a pair of Spideys to stop them. Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099 investigate the situation, with Black Cat lending a hand. Or… is she? Given the event is called Cat and Mouse, I’m not hopeful that Felicia’s on the up-and-up this time. That’s not the only business Black Cat is getting involved in, but I’ll leave that to all of you to discover. Some UI improvements, bug fixes, and other enhancements have been made to the core experience to make it easier to get your hands on the information you need to succeed.

Toon Blast, Free Oh, even Toon Blast is getting in on the Easter stuff. Yes, the fifty-level addition to the game this time is dedicated to eggs and bunnies and all of that stuff. I’ve picked it as the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for this week, largely because I am once again late for dinner and need to wrap this up. And wrap it up I shall, friends. Wrap it up I shall.

Asphalt 9: Legends, Free Wrapping things up, we’ve got the latest version of Asphalt 9 Legends to look at. As you would expect, there are lots of new events with new cars on offer. The Starway event sees you starring up high-class cars you might have missed out on before. The first one covers the Huracan EVO Spyder. There’s the New Breed Rivals event, with the Vision 1789 as a potential prize. Looper Prix challenges you to catch your ghost and use its slipstream to gain speed, with the potential to unlock the Arash AF8 Falcon Edition and Brabham BT62. There’s more where that came from, but I’ll let you investigate further if you’re interested.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
