Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Mario Kart Tour’, ‘Final Fantasy VI’, ‘Disney Melee Mania’, ‘Tiny Tower’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some big names making appearances this week, with the likes of Mario, Final Fantasy, Disney, Marvel, LEGO, and more rolling up with their latest improvements. Don’t worry, it’s not all big brands. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Mario Kart Tour, Free I can’t tell if Nintendo is phasing Mii characters out or keeping them these days, but the latest update for Mario Kart Tour suggests we haven’t quite seen the last of the little creatures. In preparation for the Mii Tour kicking off on Wednesday, this update adds Mii support to the game. You’ll be able to bring over your Miis saved on your Nintendo Account and race them as you like. This update also raises level caps on a number of elements and adds some new characters to the daily shop rotation. An odd way to celebrate MAR10 Day, but it’s what we’ve got.

Tiny Tower: Tap Idle Evolution, Free After deleting this game and my tower ages ago, I recently reloaded it and started up a new building. A few things have changed, but it’s still a nice way to chill here and there during the day. It’s still getting fairly regular updates, too. This latest one adds three new costumes and two new pets to customize your Bitizens with. It also overhauls the shop, adding the Piggy Bank to it and moving special offers there instead of lining them up on the left panel. Nice, nice.

MARVEL Future Revolution, Free Alright, let’s see what’s new in the world of Marvel Future Revolution. Oh, there’s a new event. An Epic Invasion featuring the Master of Magnetism himself, Magneto. He’s not alone, either. For whatever reason, he’s brought a whole ton of Super Sentinels with him. No problem. For as big as they are, they seem to be taken apart fairly easily by super heroes. Take the two new Companion characters, for example. Both Hulk and Thor can make short work of most Sentinels. The P.E.G.A.S.U.S. Base has also been added to the game, among several other small improvements. I know what you’re wondering. It stands for Potential Energy Group/Alternate Sources/United States. Yes, that’s pretty stupid. Can’t even blame ol’ Stan for that one.

FINAL FANTASY VI, $17.99 The game is out; let the bug-smashing begin. Aside from the ca-ca font and lack of controller support, the biggest issue with the Pixel Remaster games has been the odd bugs that have cropped up. Final Fantasy VI is no exception, and this first update is dedicated to catching some of the more obvious ones. In particular, an issue with Gau was causing headaches for a variety of players and has now been fixed. Let’s hope that once all the big bugs are squashed the developers can get around to those font and controller points.

Gardenscapes, Free Here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. Apparently it’s Rock Season in Gardenscapes? I’m assuming that’s the music genre, not the mineral. But you never really know with this game. On top of that, there’s an event where you’re transforming your garden into a school of magic for some reason, and a Makeover Show. Not for Austin, I assume. He’s already a 10/10. Speaking of, the garden adventures continue with a chapter that follows Austin trying to make peace with a former student who he seems to have had a falling out with. Good luck, buddy. Even the attempt is admirable.

LEGO® Brawls, Time to Brawl Out, friends. Yes, the clash of LEGO themes is back, pitting classic LEGO sets against each other in a battle to see who belongs at the top. There are mash-up levels that see sets like Space squaring off with Castle, and a Trophy Rush game mode where you can try to fill your mantle with shiny gold trinkets. An exclusive new minifig is up for grabs, but you’ll have to work hard to take home the prize. Add in a few fixes and adjustments, and that’s the lot.

Spire Blast, Well, let’s wade into the Apple Arcade stuff for a bit. First up is Spire Blast, which got a fair-sized update that adds in Frosty Dale, a whole new world with a gob-smacking sixty new levels to play. There’s also a new little dragon pal named Blastee who you can dress up as you see fit. Dressing up little dragons. Video games rule. The developers round all that out with some polish, performance improvements, and some general bug squashery.

SP!NG, This update gets off on the right foot with a brand new chapter to play through. It’s called The Lost Levels, and it’s not quite as hellish as the most famous game to bear that name. But it is a set of levels that reflects the experience the game’s level designers have collected thus far, so be prepared for some really clever ones. Aside from the new chapter, there’s also a brand new mode to try out. Zen mode basically removes all the stressful elements to give you a completely chill playground. No timers, no goals, no fail states. Just you and some nodes to fling yourself from. Yeah, that’s a good addition. I reckon I’ll give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week.

Disney Melee Mania, Disney Melee Mania is making its first appearance in these update articles, but I couldn’t help but include it after seeing some of our lovely readers discussing it in our extremely fancy Discord. So what’s in it? Some new Champions: Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty and The Beast from… from Beauty and the Beast. Meilin Lee and her Red Panda form will also be swinging by soon to tie in with Turning Red. There’s a new mode called Orb Blast, and a new arena element in the form of Treadmills, which work exactly the way you think they would. Some UI fixes top things off for this new version.

Spaceland, And we’ll finish things up with a look at the big-pants update to turn-based strategy game Spaceland. There’s a lot of new content here, with eight new storyline battles set on the desert planet of Potatokon, a new hero named Uncle Barney, some new abilities for existing heroes, new enemies, a new map, some new music, and more. There are also some new types of daily missions to take on. If you’ve missed out on this game up until now, this is the perfect excuse to give it a go.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
