Developer Wales Interactive is continuing to do its thing, and in case you aren’t familiar, their “thing" happens to be creating some of the most well-regarded interactive FMV games since the quirky genre’s resurgence over the last decade or so, such as The Complex, Five Dates, Night Book and Bloodshore. Their latest is titled Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? and it has an extremely dark and humorous premise:
“Every year, Abby’s mum has a family quiz on her birthday. It’s a long-held tradition, one that brings the whole rich and eccentric family together – and one that Abby dreads. But this year’s quiz comes with a shocking difference… as it’s about to begin, her beloved Uncle Marcus tells her that he’s dying – and someone in the family has poisoned him. Abby is the only one he can trust… You must find out who the murderer is before it is too late."
Besides the fact that you’re trying to solve a murder mystery about someone who technically hasn’t been murdered yet, Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? is also unique in that it takes place pretty much entirely over video calls. This makes sense in the context of our world today but also works out beautifully for the actors who all filmed their parts while in lockdown in both London and Los Angeles. And if some of these characters look familiar, that’s because some are from previous Wales Interactive projects while the titular Uncle Marcus played Dunder Mifflin executive David Wallace on the US version of The Office.
The planned release date for Who Pressed Mute on Uncle Marcus? is March 18th on iOS, Android, Nintendo Switch, PC, and Playstation and Xbox consoles. The iOS version is available for pre-order now and you can wishlist the PC version over on Steam.
