SwitchArcade Round-Up: Trailers from The Game Awards, Plus ‘Monopoly Madness’ and Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for December 10th, 2021. The Game Awards were held last night, which means a couple of things for us here in this column. First is that we have a bunch of trailers to check out. We all love trailers, right? Second, we’ve got some very good sales in the inbox today. Very, very good stuff. Plus a whole lot of the usual suspects, naturally. We also have a teeny-tiny list of expiring sales. Let’s go for it!

News

Quick Hits from The Game Awards

Hey, there was some neat stuff at The Game Awards. Nintendo didn’t have anything to show this time, but there were lots of trailers for games that are coming to Switch. Being that I don’t have a whole ton to say about each of them, I’m just going to roll that beautiful bean footage for you all.

‘Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course’ Trailer (Coming June 30, 2022)

‘Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak’ Trailer (Coming Summer 2022)

‘Persona 4 Arena Ultimax’ Trailer (Coming March 17, 2022)

‘Sonic Frontiers’ Debut Trailer (Coming Holiday 2022)

‘A Plague Tale: Requiem’ Trailer (Coming as Cloud Version)

‘Dying Light 2: Stay Human’ Trailer (Coming Feb 2022 as Cloud Version)

New Releases

Monopoly Madness ($29.99)

Okay, we already have Monopoly on Switch. But this one is… mad? Is that better? Well, it’s different at least. Uncle Pennybags is going on vacation, and he needs someone to stand in for him. The winning candidate will be the one that comes out on top in a real-time race. There’s no board here, as you’ll simply run around Monopoly Town picking up money, water, and electricity. Don’t keep those last two in the same bag, eh? Community Chests contain power-ups you can use to get a leg up on your opponents. Up to six players can join in locally or via online play, and there are twenty different Monopoly-inspired playable characters for you to fight over. It seems like it could be fun to play with the family.

Memories of East Coast ($4.99)

I find that screenshot hilarious in combination with the title of this game. Go to East Coast. Yeah, buddy. Ye cannot get ye East Coast. Anyway, this is a visual novel-style game about a fellow named Sam who takes a trip to a place he hasn’t been to in fifteen years. Naturally, he’s left some bad stuff behind there that he will have to confront. Will it be bittersweet? Probably! If you’re looking for a little story to carry you into the weekend, this one is affordable enough.

A Year of Springs ($4.99)

Or maybe you would like this story instead. Three little stories, in fact. Haru, Erika, and Manami are three friends each with their own tales of love, relationships, and belonging. Each of the three main tales has multiple endings based on your choices, and there’s also a new epilogue in this version of the game. I kind of dig the art style on this one. It is also quite affordable.

Wild & Adventure Pinball ($14.99)

Another collection of six pinball tables. You get Jurassic Pinball, Shark Pinball, Dragon Pinball, Titan Pinball, Pirates Pinball, and Safari Pinball. It is possible this bundle will be cheaper than buying them separately, depending on which things are sale at any given moment. Make sure you don’t already own these though, as some of them have been in more than a few bundles by now.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

There’s a special sale going on to celebrate The Game Awards, as we’ve seen in previous years. That means some very rare sales, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Octopath Traveler, Splatoon 2, and Cadence of Hyrule. Ubisoft is running one of its usual sales, and a bunch of other cool games like A Robot Named Fight, Bud Spencer & Terence Hill: Slaps ‘n Beans, and Kuukiyomi 2 are discounted as well. By comparison, there isn’t much to get concerned about in the weekend outbox. Check both lists carefully!

That’s all for today and this week, friends. Oh, and while I didn’t mention it up in the news section, Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pass holders can update their Nintendo 64 app to get Paper Mario as of today. Banjo-Kazooie will be coming next month, so that’s nice. We’re getting very close to the holidays now, so releases will be slowing to a crawl. Still, next week will see the releases of Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, Clockwork Aquario, and Asteroids: Recharged among others, so the tank isn’t quite empty yet. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
