SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Ruined King’, ‘Surviving the Aftermath’, ‘Klang 2’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 17th, 2021. In today’s article, we’ve got news on an upcoming update for Shantae and the Seven Sirens to go over before heading into the new releases for the day. Some notables in the bunch like Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, Surviving the Aftermath, and Grow: Song of the Evertree. We’ve got summaries of all of them, of course. We also have the lists of new and expiring sales for the day, such as they are. Let’s get to it!

A Spectacular Update is Coming to ‘Shantae & the Seven Sirens’

The latest Shantae game, Shantae & the Seven Sirens, kept up the series tradition of gorgeous visuals, oddball characters, and lots of interesting places to explore. It was also a little bit easier than many of the other entries in the series, which could be good or bad depending on your tastes. Well, Wayforward is bringing a big free update to the game on November 30th that has something for you regardless of where you fall on its difficulty. There will be four new modes to enjoy. Definitive makes it harder and adds some new dialogue with the Sirens. Beginner makes it easier for those who just want to have a relaxed time. Full Deck gives you all fifty Monster Cards at the start, while Rule Breaker mode allows you to equip up to fifty Monster Cards at the same time. There are some other improvements in here, but you can discover those yourself when this Spectacular Superstar update arrives on November 30th.

New Releases

Ruined King: A League of Legends Story ($29.99)

Here’s another League of Legends Story game, and like yesterday’s Hextech Mayhem the brand has been paired up with a talented developer. This is a turn-based RPG from the folks at Airship Syndicate, the team behind the excellent Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Darksiders Genesis. It looks lovely and the previous games from Airship Syndicate give me a lot of confidence that it will play well, too. Build your party, explore the world of Runeterra, and learn some of the stories behind the Champions of League of Legends. Neat.

Klang 2 ($14.99)

This is a pretty fun rhythm game with trippy visuals. Follow the beat to attack enemies, dodge attacks, and use special moves. You get thirty levels to play through, and it gets a bit wild as you get into it. There’s a slight procedural element to it so that the tracks play a little differently each time, and bosses up the ante with some new rules you’ll have to learn on the fly.

Grow: Song of the Evertree ($24.99)

Here’s another chill game for those who appreciate such things. You play as an alchemist, and a rather important one as you are the last in your world. Thus, it falls to you to restore the Evertree to its rightful brilliance. You plant world seeds in it, then head into those worlds to beautify them. The worlds expand as you do this, giving you more space to make things pretty. Eventually, you’ll need to move on to another one. While all this is taking place, a town on the ground under the Evertree slowly grows. You need to help grow that town and manage the people. Grow is a real slow burn but if you enjoy games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing, you might want to give it some consideration.

Surviving the Aftermath ($29.99)

Here’s a colony-building simulation game from the folks at Paradox and Iceflake Studios, this one with a post-apocalyptic theme. Create your colony of survivors with more than 130 buildings, over 80 unique specialists, and plenty of situations where you have to pick between two bad outcomes. It’s going to take careful planning and more than a little luck to bring civilization back from the brink of destruction. Reviews were a little mixed on this one in its Early Access form on Steam, but it certainly has some ardent fans already.

Mastho is Together ($4.99)

Cute title. This is a minimalistic platformer where you play as a white square that is meant to be a marshmallow. You get forty levels to play through, each filled with plenty of tricky traps that you’ll have to jump, wall-kick, and air-dash your way around to reach the exit. It’s that five-dollar Switch platformer energy again, folks.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Let’s be real: the Black Friday sales are going to be starting up soon. There will likely be more than a thousand new sales hitting at the same time, and some of those will be the best deals we’ve seen all year. Today… is not that day, and as such the list is a little meager. Kingdom Two Crowns and WRC 9 The Official Game stand out to my eyes at a quick glance, but I’m not seeing a lot worth jumping up and down over. The same goes for the outbox, which is mostly filled with the usual suspects. Check those lists anyway, though.

Possibly a lot of sales. We’ll see. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
