SwitchArcade Round-Up: The Final New ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event is Upon Us, Plus the Latest Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 10th, 2021. As I predicted yesterday, today is a rather light one as far as the world of Switch goes. We’ve got a bit of bittersweet Super Smash Bros. Ultimate news to check out, a few low-profile new releases, and a rather small list of new sales to look at. Oh, and the list of expiring sales. That’s a little large, I suppose. Don’t worry, tomorrow will be a wild one. Let’s ride that Wednesday wave!

Get Ready to Ride in the Final New ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event

Well, now it’s really over, isn’t it? Nintendo has announced that starting from next week, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s weekly events will go into reruns. That means this weekend will see the final new event for the game, and we will not be seeing any new Spirits from here on out. The final event is kind of anti-climactic, to be honest. It’s a tournament themed around vehicles, and only stages set on or around vehicles are available. Rack up the wins to earn higher quality spirits, as always. The event kicks off on Friday and runs for the typical three days. Sigh. End of an era.

New Releases

Real Farm – Premium Edition ($39.99)

This is another farm simulation game, and judging by its reviews on other platforms, it’s not a very good one at all. But hey, maybe they improved it for this version? You get two maps to play on, one set in America and the other set in Western Europe. This Premium Edition also includes two DLCs, the Potato Pack and Grunes Tal map. Apparently other improvements have been made to the UI and game mechanics, but it feels like it would have taken an awful lot of work to get the original Real Farm even up to the level of mediocre. Well, it’s not my row to hoe.

Gunkid 99 ($6.99)

This is a Super Crate Box-inspired arcade-style action game. It works more or less like that game, where you’re trying to rack up a high scores while constantly changing up your weapons. The main difference here is that your character has access to more moves and abilities. There are a couple dozen or so weapons, more than thirty special abilities, about the same number of stages to battle on, and two different gameplay modes. If you’ve burnt out on the actual Super Crate Box and want to try something else in its vein, you might want to look into this.

The Adventure of Ravi ‘n’ Navi ($15.00)

I’m not sure what to make of this one. It looks kind of bad in some ways, but also fun in other ways. It’s a 3D platformer and pretty clearly an indie effort. A rabbit and a fairy team up to go on an adventure to collect the Sacred Carrot, which is as good a reason as any. There are lots of different minigame-like activities by the looks of it, too. I want to cheer this game on, but until I get to play it myself I really can’t give it a strong recommendation.

890B ($4.99)

In this top-down adventure game, you take the role of a scientist who needs to find a new “Earth" for humanity to move to after we ruined the old one. You do this, somehow, by exploring a spooky research lab and solving lots of weird logic puzzles. Video games, people. You’ll also make some choices on the way that will lead you to one of the game’s multiple endings. Honestly, it doesn’t look too bad for a fiver if this is your genre of choice.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

That inbox is as small as we’ve seen in a long while. But it does have Monster Train First Class in it, and that is a very good game. You will want to look over the list of expiring sales, however. Capcom’s latest sale is coming to a close, and while much of it is made up of games that are on sale very often, Ghosts ‘n Goblins Resurrection and the Capcom Arcade Stadium DLC packs are rarer sights. Groove Coaster Wai Wai Party is another great pick-up that seldom dips as low as it has in this latest sale. Check those lists carefully, just to be safe.
