SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Swords & Souls: Neverseen’, ‘Rogue Explorer’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 18th, 2021. In today’s article, we’ve got a thin slice of news before we head into the new releases for the day. Not a huge assortment to look at, but all of them have some merit. That doesn’t happen most days! After that, we’ve got the usual lists of new and expiring sales for you to look over. A little quieter than usual, but nothing wrong with that sometimes. Let’s jump in and see what’s waiting!

Today’s ‘Pokemon Presents’ Offers News on Upcoming ‘Pokemon’ Games

Ahh, the time zone difference again. By the time this is posted, the Pokemon Presents presentation will have already aired. You will surely know what new information about Pokemon Shining Pearl/Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Legends: Arceus came out in the half-hour video. Maybe there were some surprises? But I am writing this roughly six hours before the presentation airs, and I am not privy to that information. But the video should be right up there for you to watch, and if there’s any really big news I will recap it tomorrow. Enjoy!

New Releases

Swords & Souls: Neverseen ($14.99)

This is a very hard game to put down once you get into it. The idea here is that you play through the story by fighting turn-based battles, and in between them you use the resources you earned to improve your training facilities and upgrade the town’s services. All of your stat games come from training, which involves playing various mini-games. It feels like something between a light turn-based RPG and an idle game, and I can’t decide if it’s a bunch of fun or just taking advantage of my baser instincts. I’ll have to figure it out soon, because I will be reviewing this one early next week.

Rogue Explorer ($7.99)

If you’re in the mood for a very low-friction roguelite action game, you may want to look into this game. You customize your character’s look then head into the various dungeons, which take the form of procedurally-generated open areas with lots of enemies to battle, traps to avoid, and loot to find. Death only costs you some temporary stat boosts and special skills, as your character will survive with all gear intact. Basically, this is one of those roguelites where as long as you keep playing, you are sure to eventually overcome any obstacle. Not a bad thing, if that’s the flavor you’re after.

Out of Line ($12.99)

This is a short but fairly sweet puzzle platformer with a truly striking art style that helps the game stand out in a very crowded genre. The game is extremely vague with its narrative, so don’t expect much satisfaction there if you’re the sort that wants a clear story. It’s also relatively easy, which makes the couple of hours it runs more of a relaxing evening than a challenging affair. The main character’s design reminds me a lot of Maxwell from Scribblenauts, but unless I missed some very big twist along the way, I think it’s just coincidence.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Well, that’s a more manageable list than the last few, at least. If I were to pick some things to look at, I would perhaps lean towards Fear Effect Sedna, the BIT.TRIP games, and maybe Blazing Beaks? Maybe? You could also just save your money, as there’s nothing that rare or exceptional in the inbox. The outbox, though, is a different matter. Lots of great indies at great prices, many of which only go on sale every few months or so. Too many to list, really. Just give it a good scan and make sure you’ve bought everything you want from it while you still can.
