Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. I’ve got an unusual mix of titles in the list this time. Well, there are a couple of familiar faces, but for the most part this is a fresh mix. Just that kind of week, I suppose. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Templar Battleforce Elite, $9.99 Somehow I missed this one last week, so I’m including it this time. Yes, it is not an update from the last seven days. But I am the law around here, so it’s in. There are four new capstone Relics in this update: a new Blade, a new Incinerator, a new Repeater, and a new Leviathan Rifle. Cool stuff. This update also improves support for the iPhone X family of devices. As this is the first update to the game in more than two years, it also fixes a huge list of bugs. Not a lot in terms of new content, but I’ll take any excuse I can get to load up this old favorite.
PicoPico - 8bit Retro Games, Free A new update for PicoPico usually means new games added to its library, and that is indeed the case this time. Four more MSX games join the roster: Compile’s Bee & Flower, and Aqua Polis SOS, Megalopolis SOS, and Devil’s Haven from Nisso. Very simple games, but still quite fun. Also new in this update is the ability to play a selection of games by watching an ad. You can’t access the full library this way, but it does open up several more titles for those who don’t have a subscription. Note that this only lets you play the games, not play with any extra features like the score attack modes. To go with this, there’s a new tab on the game page that allows you to see at a glance which games are available to play for free.
The Greedy Cave, $0.99 The latest update to The Greedy Cave adds a few new slices of tasty content for players to enjoy. There’s a new hero, the Elf. How did the game go this long without an Elf character? Oh well, it’s fixed now. There’s also a new pet in the form of the Flower Fairy. Don’t let any fairies hear you call them pets, though. There’s a new pictorial system that you can access through the tavern, too. Finally, some bug fixes and optimizations have been made. Not too bad.
MARVEL Strike Force: Squad RPG, Free As ever, this Marvel Strike Force update seeds in a bunch of things that may not be immediately available, but will be soon. Three new playable characters will be joining the game: Colleen Wing, Misty Knight, and an original character named Kestrel. There are also some new costumes, but most of them are connected to limited-time events. Those costumes include Captain Marvel (Vers), Thor (Siege), Nick Fury (S.T.R.I.K.E. Anniversary), Elektra (Modern), Scarlet Witch (WandaVision ’50s), and Vision (WandaVision ’50s). Those last two sound very cool. There are a few other additions and a whole pile of bug fixes besides that, so do pop in and check it all out if you haven’t played in a while.
Toy Blast, Free Here’s our obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week. It’s Toy Blast this time, selected simply because I didn’t feel like digging around for anything else. There are fifty new levels as always, and the theme this time around seems to be relaxing in a zen garden? I mean, that’s kind of what people get from these matching puzzle games so I guess that’s appropriate. Will that stuff actually show up in the game? Someone who has played through the 5,000 levels already in the game let me know, eh?
The Seven Deadly Sins, Free Sometimes a collaboration is so weird that I just have to include it. Such is this one, which sees The Seven Deadly Sins mix it up with… Stranger Things? Well, okay. Eleven, Will Byers, Mike Wheeler, and Jim Hopper join the game as the Heroes of Hawkins. They’re all connected to various events and special rewards, and I presume it’s not going to be terribly easy to get your hands on all of them. I really have to wonder how this one came about. The Seven Deadly Sins is as anime as it gets, and Stranger Things just doesn’t feel, you know, all that anime. Well, here it is. Come and get it if you want.
The King of Fighters ALLSTAR, Free In the latest version of The King of Fighters Allst Ar, there are some new Boss Syndrome Fighters. Boss Syndrome Krizalid and Boss Syndrome Geese Howard are now in the game, and the original Boss Syndrome Fighters have been rereleased. Those were Boss Syndrome Orochi and Boss Syndrome Omega Rugal, for those not keeping notes. Some new events have been added, along with some new items. Throw in some bug fixes and performance improvements, and that’s the lot. But when the lot includes Geese Howard, what more do you really need?
Pico Tanks, Free Pico Tanks seems to be pretty popular. That’s kind of fascinating given how basic a concept it’s built on. Anyway, big new update for this game. There’s a brand-new weapon that lets you call down Orbital Strikes. Wow, that escalated pretty quickly. Also new: one-on-one duels. For settling hashes, you see. You can do it at high noon for extra cowboy authenticity if you want. Cowboy tanks. You can now spray marks on the battlefield, if that’s a thing you’re into. There are a number of other little changes, UI improvements, and balance adjustments. Oh, and bug fixes. You knew those had to be in there.
Birdie Crush: Fantasy Golf, Free If you need a break from Clap Hanz Golf, there’s always Birdie Crush: Fantasy Golf. This latest version is a major update by the standards of the game. The biggest thing is the new Magic Workshop, which allows you to combine equipment pieces to create some truly high-grade gear. There’s a new course called the Square Castle, and some new FP content that allows you to trade points for items. One character, Erin, has had their skills and traits adjusted to make them more competitive. Other improvements and bug fixes have been implemented as well. UI improvements, mainly. Everyone likes those.
Genshin Impact, Free Genshin Impact continues on its quest to be the first mobile game that doesn’t fit on the internal memory of any mobile device. Beneath the Light of Jadeite is the name given to version 1.5 of the game, and it has a bunch of new stuff for you to dig into. There are two new characters, Eula and Yanfei. There’s a new mechanic, the Serenitea Pot. Oh, good name on that. I like it. There are two new quests and four new events, giving you some things to keep you busy. One new weapon: the Song of Broken Pines. That sounds intriguing. And there are two new domains to muck around in as well. I suppose that’s good enough for the coveted UMMSotW award for this week.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
