Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for March 15th, 2021. Somehow, we’ve ended up with something of a quiet one today. There are a couple of new releases to look at, and there are plenty of games in the incoming and outgoing sales lists. On the other hand, there isn’t any exciting news to report and I don’t have any reviews ready to go. Tomorrow will be very different in that regard, so do look forward to that. For today, I’ve decided to just throw up my arms and accept that there isn’t much going on. Let’s look at what we have!
New Releases
Fatum Betula ($5.49)
We’re finally starting to see a few games go after the whole PlayStation 1 aesthetic. For whatever else I could say about Fatum Betula, it definitely has that vibe down. It’s an adventure game featuring some very light puzzle-solving, mostly opting for building an atmosphere over stumping the player. A short game with multiple endings and a strong nihilistic theme running through it, Fatum Betula isn’t like much else on the Switch. It seems to have strong user reviews on other platforms, so if you’re in the mood for something odd you may want to look into this.
Infectra ($3.99)
Here’s another game with a bit of a vintage feel to its presentation. It doesn’t seem to be aiming for a particular console’s style, however. The combination of a low-poly look and FMV scenes with real actors just hits me with a 90s feeling anyway. It’s a strategy game with 12 missions where you need to evacuate healthy people and eliminate infected ones in an attempt to stop the spread of a deadly virus. Hm. So the idea is that you guide the civilians to designated rescue zones while using fortifications to fend off attacking mutants. The price is low enough that the game can get away with not offering a ton of content, or having a lot of rough edges. That’s probably not a coincidence.

A healthy list of new sales came in over the weekend. Lots of the usual suspects, of course. We can’t seem to get away from those. But there are a few interesting discounts in the mix. Baba is You is a great puzzle game that only goes on sale every few months or so. Legrand Legacy is a decent enough RPG for two bucks, and might be worth grabbing if you’re hungry for another game of that sort. As for the outbox, the most notable thing is SmileBASIC 4. It’s very rare to see a discount on it, and there are a lot of user-created games you can enjoy with it even if you don’t want to make any of your own.
