Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. It was a busy one for me today, so I didn’t have a lot of time to sleuth out the more obscure updates. You’ll find a lot of familiar faces here, along with a few lesser-seen choices. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Marvel Contest of Champions, Free You know, I was going to call shenanigans on the All-Father joining the line-up of the Contest of Champions, but it’s not like he’s the first god to make the scene. Anyway, yeah. Odin is being added to the roster, and that means some new events to explain how that all happened. This update also adds in the International Women’s Day Boss Rush, a series of battles designed by members of the community. Throw in some bug fixes, balance tweaks, and other improvements and you’re all set.
Jetpack Joyride, Free Nothing too exciting or fresh in this latest update for Jetpack Joyride, and I assume with the sequel coming along that’s going to start being the norm. The Bling It On event makes a return engagement, giving you another chance to get your hands on some luxurious items like the Golden Tophat and the Golden S.A.M. by collecting gold bars in the event. It’s another limited-time affair, so if you want to get those items now is the time to do it. Sure, it will probably come back again… but it might not! Ooh, how scary. I want to give all my money now.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Well, let’s see what zany and/or obscure character they’ve added to Disney Heroes: Battle Mode this time around. The property in question this time around is the rather excellent Zootopia, and you’d be right to assume most of the major characters from that movie are already in the game. That leaves us with a rather wonderful pick, the duo of Mr. Big & Koslov. If you don’t remember them, it’s the little shrew Godfather-type character and his big polar bear bodyguard/means of transportation. There’s also a new Inside Out collection, and the Invasion difficulty now scales with your level. Not bad.
Fire Emblem Heroes, Free A modest update this time, but I’m sure it’s all welcome for the fanbase. First up, some new Combat Manuals that you can compile using Divine Codes (Part 2), which themselves can be obtained from specific new events. If you’re bumping up against the Friend List limit, you’ll be glad to know the cap has been raised to 150. Wow, that’s a lot of friends! Imagine if you had to buy them all presents for Christmas? Finally, some small updates have been made to Tempest Trials+, Aether Raids, and Mjolnir’s Strike. Not sure to what end, but I’ll leave that to the more involved players to sort out.
Honkai Impact 3rd, Free Honkai Impact is probably getting a bit more attention in the West on the back of its stablemate Genshin Impact‘s massive success, and that’s a good thing. Nevertheless, it’s celebrating its third anniversary. Log in during this anniversary period and play the events to earn some free goodies. This latest version brings a new Battlesuit, a new event, a new Ice Support ELF, and some new equipment. In the absence of anything else that particularly tickles my fancy this week, I suppose I’ll award Honkai Impact with the coveted UMMSotW award as a birthday present. There, you can’t say I didn’t get you anything.
Angry Birds 2, Free Angry Birds, friends. It’s apparently all about the hats now. I suppose we all have to be about something, and these birds are really into fancy chapeaus. Or should I say boushis? Because this latest version adds the Theater Road Hat Adventure complete with a new Kabuki Hat Set. Aside from the new content, there’s also a new feature. Collect all the tier 2 and tier 3 hat evolutions for any given set and you’ll get a boost to your slingshot power. I probably don’t need to tell you that in a game about flinging birds, having a more powerful slingshot is a big benefit. But I told you anyway, because that’s how we fill out the text for pretty formatting.
Minion Rush, Free The Minions carry on their nefarious plans even without a movie behind them. Frankly amazing how long this one has been running, but I guess people love those wacky little guys. This new update, dubbed Family Fun Time, has some new special missions to complete. Gru and Dru are having a little throwdown, and a Dance Battle is on the horizon. A few new costumes are available: the hockey player, the DJ, and the grenadier. That last one feels like an especially dangerous idea. Finally, crates have been added to the Minion Festival. Yay, crates! I don’t what is good about them, but they put them in the update notes so they must have some use.
Gardenscapes, Free I admit that Austin’s chances of being selected for one of the slots of the Fighters Pass 2 for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are starting to look a bit slim, but I’ll never give up on him. For now, one of his games has gotten a content-rich new update. The new Fluffy Season event is well on its way, with plenty of rewards to earn. Another event coming up soon sees Austin and his buddy Carl renovating a mysterious castle. That will be followed by an Easter Hunt complete with a mysterious masked bunny. The main story gets more content, introducing a new character named Albert Armstrong. You’ll be unlocking a new area and restoring a railroad along with various other tasks. It should be a busy month for Austin and company, in other words. No time for Smash, it seems. That’s probably why he had to decline the invitation.
CSR 2 Multiplayer Racing Game, Free The latest chapter of Elite Tuners has arrived in the form of Elite Tuners Chapter 3. Continue the story of TashimiX as the TEMPE5T returns. Make the tough decisions and show them who’s boss. TEMPE5T isn’t the only thing making a comeback, however. Supercar Science has returned, allowing you to lay your mitts on some fancy supercars from the likes of Pagani and Aston Martin. There are new Elite Tuner cars: the Subaru WRX STI and the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Final Edition. There are also a couple of new cars, with the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm and Pagani Imola added to the line-up. Will you be able to add them to your collection? That is a question I literally cannot answer.
Star Traders: Frontiers, $6.99 We’ll finish up this week with a look at the latest version of Star Traders: Frontiers, because why not? With this many updates under the game’s belt, you can probably expect many new additions to be a bit in the weeds, and that’s the case here. There’s a new feature where if you trade $5,000 credits in violation of a Trade Ban/War into a Trade Alliance, it will increase the conflict score of a supported faction. Improvements have been made to the crew combat UI, and some outstanding bugs have been squished into teeny-tiny bits. Good enough.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
