Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. An interesting batch of games this time, though in many ways it feels like the opposite of last week’s list. All I can say is that I hope you enjoy your free-to-play games, because that is pretty much the whole menu this time. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
MARVEL Future Fight, Free The latest update for Marvel Future Fight starts a new dawn… the Dawn of X. Which is not to be confused for the Dawn of XXX. Very different things. This update features new uniforms for Cable, Gambit, X-23, and Rogue. There’s also a very special Deadpool 30th anniversary original uniform. Cable gets his Tier-3 version, and Gambit, X-23, and Nightcrawler get their Potential Awakened or Transcended updates. A new Top Tier League has been added to the Alliance Conquest and Timeline Battle modes, as well.
PicoPico - 8bit Retro Games, Free The library of retro games in the PicoPico app makes an impressive new step today by adding games from a system that isn’t the NES for the first time. Guardic and Relics for the MSX are now available for those who subscribe to the service. Not the finest of games as far as the MSX goes, but they’re fun to mess around with. Japanese users got titles from another system on top of those, with a trio of Game Gear RPGs added to the service. As they were never translated into English, it’s understandable why they’ve been left out of the Western version of the app.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free So which beloved characters are joining Disney Heroes this time around? Oh, it’s Wasabi from Big Hero 6. Yeah, he’s cool. He’s the only new character, but apparently Mad Madam Mim is getting a refresh in this update as well. Other than that, it’s the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. I find it fascinating to see which characters show up in this and other Disney apps as some of the cuts are surprisingly deep or off the beaten path. Wasabi may not be the biggest example of that, but he’s hardly Donald Duck either.
Black Desert Mobile, Free I wish I had a long-winded story about this game, because these update notes are sparse indeed. Well, nothing to be done about it. Here’s what you get: Path of Glory Season 3, Primal Alchemy Stone, Guild Boss Rush Season 3, New Events, Quality of Life Improvements. All capitalized like that. I like to imagine there’s some mini-episode called Quality of Life Improvements that gets all meta with the concept, but that’s not the kind of game this is. No, this is a fantasy MMO-type deal with a rather straight-laced approach. I don’t know why but when I first heard the title of this game ages ago, I thought it was going to be a military shooter? Weird.
TRANSFORMERS: Forged to Fight, Free Oh, these silly Transformers. I see the Autobots are still waging their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. Well, someone has to, I suppose. Can’t do to let evil forces run around unchecked. Imagine what the world would look like with giant evil robots running about doing whatever they like, transforming into arbitrary objects and getting annoyed when we aren’t impressed at their subterfuge. Awful. Um, this update. It lets you upgrade five-star Bots to six-stars. More grinding, basically. But worry not, as you can now buff your team by watching an ad video. There have also been a couple of adjustments made to the UI, and presumably a bug or three were fixed.
Lineage 2: Revolution, Free I’ve been writing this weekly round-up for literal years now, so I’ve probably told this story before. But a long time ago when I was working at a game shop, the original Lineage II was about to release. We had all the promo materials up and everything, and people were preordering as we coerced them to do. Anyway, one fellow came in and wanted to preorder the game, but he called it Line Age 2, and I’ve never been able to look at the game’s title the same way again. I thought I was done with it, but then this mobile version came out and not I get to relive it every few weeks or so. This update adds a new Rune territory, raises the level cap to 520, adds five new mounts, kicks off Conqueror Season 1, and a few more things besides. Roses are red, violets are blue, still laughing that, he said Line Age 2.
AFK Arena, Free It’s another usual update for AFK Arena, which manes a new hero has made the scene. It’s a Wilder hero named Respen: The Windchild. You can test play the new hero and enjoy a Bountiful Trials event dedicated to them. There are some new adventures to embark on, a new Mage Class Exclusive Artifact, and some new items. A variety of improvements have been made to the UI to make certain tasks easier to perform, and a number balance tweaks and other adjustments. Some bug fixes too, naturally. You really can’t push an update without doing a little bit of that, I say.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free With the big anniversary event seemingly done, we’re back to the usual updates for Another Eden. There’s a new fourth chapter for Song of Sword and Wings of Lost Paradise, a new encounter with Rosetta (Another Style), and some Ally Encounters to play through. Seems like enough to keep people busy for another week, and given how often this game updates that’s generally all any update needs to do.
Merge Dragons!, Free No free-to-play matching puzzle game update this week, but we do have a free-to-play merging puzzle game update to look at. Merge Dragons! usually seeds in the next few events with each new version, and this one is no different. The Lunar New Year event and the Valentine’s event step up this time, with some new levels filling out the content for those interested in things outside of events. Not bad all around, though I suspect at least one of those events is already over as I type this. Oh well, that’s how it goes with these round-ups sometimes!
Genshin Impact, Free Genshin Impact keeps on getting bigger, in more ways than one. The way we’re concerned with here today is in its content, however. The memory size? That’s a job for the Best Memory Hogs Round-Up. So what do we have here? A new character, Vigilant Yaksha Xiao (Anemo). A new event, the Lantern Rite Main Event named All That Glitters. A couple of new weapons, a new story quest, some new monsters, and controller support for iOS 14 and up. All of that is more than sufficient for me to give this game the coveted UMMSotW award for this week. Wow, that is also big. In my mind, at least.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
