The legend Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series is no stranger to the world of mobile. Once upon a time Lara’s first two Playstation outings were released on mobile to… mixed results, mostly due to translating wonky late-90s control methods from the early days of 3D gaming into equally wonky virtual buttons. Much more successful was the excellent spin-off title Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which received a mobile iteration right alongside its console and PC release in 2010. Sadly, none of those games are available on iOS anymore. Interestingly the most successful of Lara’s mobile offerings, and the only two that are still alive today, are Lara Croft GO ($4.99) and Lara Croft: Relic Run (Free). The former is the fantastic turn-based puzzler formula ushered in by Hitman GO but applied beautifully to the world of Tomb Raider, and the latter is a Tomb Raider-ified version of Temple Run, more or less.
Well Square Enix London and Emerald City Games are partnering up to give Lara another shot at mobile gaming fame with their newly-announced project called Tomb Raider Reloaded. A very vague teaser can be seen below.
Unfortunately everything you see in that teaser is everything we know about Tomb Raider Reloaded so far. We see a dark and musty tomb, creepy giant spiders (ew), a rock golem, plenty of arrow booby traps, and… a T-Rex! We also see a pretty sugary version of classic Lara Croft sporting a look inspired by the original run of Tomb Raider games as opposed to the more recent entries or reboots. We know that Tomb Raider Reloaded will be a “free to play action arcade game" and that Emerald City is most well known for G.I. Joe: War On Cobra as well as game like Stormblades and the Lionheart series, but anything beyond that is just speculation at this point in time. We’ll just have to wait for more information to be released about Tomb Raider Reloaded, which is expected to launch at some point in 2021.
