Best iPhone Game Updates: ‘Breach & Clear’, ‘The Quest’, ‘Real Racing 3’, ‘Crossy Road Castle’, and More

TouchArcade Rating:

Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some oddballs appeared on my radar this week, friends. As such, the line-up is a bit different than usual, except where it’s not. Ha ha, what a baffling sentence that is. At any rate, there are some freshly-updated games for you to have a look at here, and hopefully at least one of them catches your eye. Of course, you can watch out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!

Mario Kart Tour, Free Yeah, it’s Mario Kart again. What can I say? It got another update in the middle of the week. There are a couple of interesting new features in the new version, including a new auto-drive mode that lets you put the CPU in the driver’s seat while you mess with camera angles and such. You can earn coins, tokens, and Grand Stars this way, but you won’t be able to complete challenges. Also, the CPU is pretty terrible. Another new feature is that your characters can get new favorite courses when you level up their skill rank. Actual new gameplay features are few and far between for this game, so let’s soak these in.

Breach & Clear: Tactical Ops, Free The usual disclaimer: I do the occasional bit of writing for the folks at GameClub, who are the publishers of this game. With that said, this is a pretty cool new frontier for the subscription service. There’s actual new content in this update that you will not find in any other version of the game. A new location in Johannesburg features three new maps, each with three different mission types and five levels of difficulty. There are also five new weapons and variants, and a new gameplay mechanics. Gear and attachments now boost your stats, adding another layer of strategy to the game. The only catch with this update is that it is exclusively available to GameClub subscribers, unlike the regular compatibility updates.

The Quest, $7.99 As usual, you know that if The Quest is making an appearance in this feature you know that it has a new expansion. And so it does, kind of. Zarista brings another one of its classic expansions to the new version of the game with the arrival of Asteroids. You’ve been sucked into a black hole and brought to a bizarre new world. Can you make it home? This expansion is intended for lower level characters so you can jump in pretty early. As ever, once you’ve bought the expansion you can activate it in this main app and get rid of the separate one. That’s what this update is for, really.

Sky: Children of the Light, Free Time for another season of content in Sky: Children of the Light! The Season of Prophecy asks you to seek out the Cave of Prophecies in the Isle of Dawn to take on four brand-new trials. Plenty of new content to enjoy if you’re still into this one. The update also includes some bug fixes and other improvements, because of course it does. As always with Sky, it’s best for you to just fire it up and see exactly what the details are on your own.

Might & Magic: Era of Chaos, Free Well, why not take advantage of your connections? Ubisoft owns Might & Magic, and Ubisoft also owns Assassin’s Creed. So in comes an Assassin’s Creed crossover event with new heroes and hero skins, new units, new story chapters, and holy emblems. The iconic Ezio and the ultra-cool Kassandra represent the series in style. There’s a new PVP mode called Clash of Gods, and even outside of the Assassin’s Creed stuff you can look forward to new units and a new hero. ASSASSIN! YUBI YUBI!.

Merge Dragons!, Free I think the whole Richard and Morton stuff has blown over, so it’s probably safe to take a peek in on Merge Dragons! again without worrying about being pulled into extra-dimensional shenanigans. Two events on tap: Sugar Fruits, and Sakura Dream. The former gives you what the description calls sparkly-sweet fun, which sounds… sticky, to be honest. The latter sees the return of the Shiba Dragon, a rather cute little thing. Oh wait, there’s also a Halloween event. Well there you go, three events. Throw in some bug fixes and improvements and that’s the lot.

Real Racing 3, Free Every couple of months, EA adds more new content to Real Racing 3 than they’ve added to the Switch version of FIFA in three years. Ha ha, cross-platform humor. Anyway, it’s another good one this time. Three new Grand Prix Special Events: Monaco, Monza, and Red Bull Ring. NASCAR is back for the 2020 season, allowing you the change to put your favorite team and driver on the track at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona. I included that just because of how ridiculous that looks. Love it. There’s some new Dim Mak Records-inspired livery, the 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 available in a limited series, some Halloween stuff, and a new Dim Mak Records soundtrack remix. Some other things too, but that’ll do for here. Pop into the game if you want to get all the details.

Injustice 2, Free Injustice 2 goes a pretty long time between updates, but at least it’s still alive. There’s a great new character to enjoy in this latest version, one who is an icon that deserves a bit more attention outside of the comics. The Legendary Martian Manhunter has a wide assortment of abilities to take on his opponents with, and I think you’ll find him a solid addition to your team. Other points in this update: a free Daily Pack has been added, a new system for upgrading Artifacts has been implemented, and a bunch of bugs have been sent to the Phantom Zone. I love the Martian Manhunter, so I’m giving this the coveted UMMSotW prize for this week.

Crossy Road Castle, Small notes, but the update is significant enough. Let’s see what we can do with it. This is of course an Apple Arcade game, so if you aren’t subscribed you just can’t even look at this game. The police will arrest you. It’s true, lots of people are saying it. Anyway, back to the update. It’s the Creepy Carnival Tower, which adds some new levels, fresh challenges, and more funky characters to collect. Oh, and hats. And secrets. Some of the secrets might be hats. I’m not in a position to say for sure, really. But wouldn’t that be so Hipster Whale? Ha ha. Okay, moving on.

LEGO® Brawls, We’ll finish things up this week with a look at another Apple Arcade game. LEGO Brawls offers exactly what the title promises, and that kind of gameplay always benefits from having new stuff thrown in the mix. This update is Halloween-themed for the most part, adding some new spookified levels that task you with collecting candy. Yes, I’m stealing the word ‘spookified’ from the update notes. I rather like it. Naturally, there are some Halloween-themed minifigs and other goodies to collect for a limited time, and a brand new collection screen to help make that easier and more comfortable than ever.

That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
