SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Overwatch’ Trial Incoming for Switch Online, ‘TTV2’ and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for October 7th, 2020. In today’s article, we’ve got a couple of decent new releases to check out. They’re both rather tough, so tread carefully, friends. We’ve also got a few news items to look at, including the latest perk for Switch Online subscribers. After that, it’s time for the new and outgoing sales. As with the last couple of days, we’re saying good-bye to more discounts than we’re welcoming, but I imagine those scales will tip again soon enough. Let’s have a look and see what we’ve got!

‘Overwatch’ Gets Free One-Week Trial for Switch Online Subscribers

It looks like Nintendo is planning to do another free trial for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. From October 13th to the 20th, those with subscriptions will be able to play the full Overwatch game for free. The game will be available to purchase at a discount for a limited time, and any progress you make while playing for free will carry over should you choose to buy the game. If you already have it, you can look forward to having a lot of new targets for a week, if nothing else.

Check Out a New Story Trailer for ‘Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity’

We’re still more than a month off from the release of Nintendo and Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but Nintendo has been steadily trickling out info to keep the game on our minds and build up the hype. The latest is a brief trailer showing off a few characters that will appear in the story. Nothing too surprising, but a little bit of fun for Breath of the Wild fans. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is scheduled for a release on November 20th of this year, and I imagine we’ll be seeing more snippets from Nintendo as the weeks roll by.

The Latest ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event is Quick on the Draw

Yes, it’s the usual Wednesday news slice, friends. The next weekend event for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been announced, set to kick off this Friday and run for three days through the weekend. It’s a Spirit Board event that highlights spirits with guns and cannons, which covers everything from the Wild Gunman to the Star Fox tanks and everything in between. Defeating these spirits will earn you the Shield Spacer item and triple the usual SP.

New Releases

TTV2 ($0.99)

There are three things I’ll say about TTV2, the latest Switch release from QUByte and Walter Machado. First, it’s very simple. All you do is move your character around, trying to exit each screen however you can. Second, it’s very frustrating. If anything even slightly touches you, it will kill you. When you move to another screen, you don’t have much time to figure out where you need to go to avoid getting killed because things close in on you fast. And if you’re killed, that’s it. Back to the start. With the screen order randomized each time, you can’t rely on pattern recognition to save you. Thirdly, it’s really hard to put down. Simple, rough, and aggravating though it may be, there’s something about TTV2 that makes you want to keep trying again.

Shmubedi Boo ($9.99)

Yeah, that name is ridiculous. But the game is alright, so no worries. It’s a challenging platformer that leans more in the direction of things like League of Evil or Super Meat Boy than, say, Super Mario Bros. or Sonic the Hedgehog. You get more than 100 stages, and you can tackle them alone or with some friends in local multiplayer. There are seven different characters to choose from, and you can buy power-ups and other goodies in shops using the apples you collect. It’s pretty good as these sorts of things go.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

A teeny-tiny list is what I have for you in today’s inbox. It has a few games that were associated with Crescent Moon on mobile, a couple of Baltoro cheapies, a discount on the upcoming Cobra Kai game (please be good), and a nice sale on Little Nightmares Complete Edition. Oh, and one of the UBERMOSH games is half-price. That’s basically it. The outbox is quite big, with quite a few excellent titles in there. Rayark’s rhythm games, some THQ Nordic games, Axiom Verge, Iconoclasts, and the Johnny Turbo’s Arcade games are all worth looking at picking up before they go back to their normal prices. Check through the list and see what catches your fancy.

That’s all for today, friends. A bit of a lighter one, admittedly. But Shaun takes his breaks where he can get them. There will be no such joy tomorrow, as there are tons of new games on the schedule that we’ll be taking a look at. Like, I see 23 new games on the schedule and that’s not counting any surprises. I think I’m going to start working today just so that I have time to finish. Sigh. Anyway, I hope you all have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
